There is a very old, potent, and powerful school of thought in the western world, and especially in North America, that denying reality, and simply believing what you choose to believe, will somehow make reality magically change, and conform to your will.
You know, it’s a really odd thing… I’ve never actually heard of that working!
But, people keep trying. Even if life doesn’t offer that mystical ‘A’ for Effort.
There are several references I have made in this piece. The first of these is from an old John Steinbeck quote:
“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”
The second is attributed to Winston Churchill: “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
I have also referenced an old Everly Brothers song: All I Have to Do is Dream.
