Darrel Shifty Powers RIP
brombear pointed this out to me, that a hero passed away almost a month ago.I had to do this.
If you watched HBO's 'Band of Brothers', you knew Shifty.
I regret not knowing about this when it happened, I would have drawn this up then. But the text says all.

Wow, I didn't even know about this. Thank you so much for posting this. Rest in Peace Shifty.
For anyone who is wondering, Darrel "shifty" Powers was a paratrooper in Easy co. 506th reg. of the 101st Airborne during WWII (D-Day to VE-Day) and was looked upon as the best marksman in the company.

Heh...He wasn't a big character in the mini-series, but much bigger in the book. He had legendary eyesight, and remembered every detail. Once, he was able to call in an artillery strike on enemy troops across the field in Bastogne because there were a couple more trees in one particular spot then the day before. he was also a deadshot with his rifle. I don't remember the exact quote, but it went something along the lines of, "It didn't pay to be fighting shifty when he had a rifle."
I have Band of Brothers sitting on my shelf. I know Shifty!
I mean no disrespect towards Michael Jackson, but I think what we have here is a man far more worthy of the attention that other men receive. I do not think the average person alive today has any comprehension of the magnitude of the struggles that have taken place in the recent past, so that we can enjoy the level of freedom we now take for granted.

I've known a few heroes in my town. They didn't have their own albums, or their image on teeshirts, or get an award on MTV or Glamour magazine. Old men with a lot of stories and arguably more humility.
