The throne may seem luxorious, comfortable, and empowering to all, but he who sits upon it shall suffer over a 1,000 deaths in the worse kind of way. Many souls who have lusted for power and is consumed by their greed sat upon this throne and all are condemned to damnation to suffer a fate worse than death.
Fall of Idolatry’s first underground album released throughout the Florence County in Florida starting in their hometown, Kellisburg. Frontman & bassist/ rhythm guitarist Cynthia Emerson and lead vocalist Kelly Sutherland commissioned me to design an image for their front cover before their album was fully put together.
I had to listen to the band’s demo tracks a couple of times in order to get the feel for what they want. Looking at drummer, Diana Valentini’s arm-sleeve of tattoos sparked ideas where to start with working on the image. So I came up with having some random, soulless fur on a throne. My inspiration for this design came from Despised Icon’s 2009 album, Day of Mourning.
It took me a while to adjust everything when I had the image in color: working with the hues to doing a lot of texture painting. I don’t usually do a full body fur texture, but for this occasion, I felt it needed that extra detail to fit the entire image especially with the barbwire digging into the soulless’ flesh, nails & iron stakes, and drawing some open wounds. I was also experimenting with doing open flesh (wounds) at the time on this image, trying out different brush strokes to see what suits my fancy.
Upon completion and presenting the all-female death metal band this image, they loved it- Especially Kelly’s crazy ass who really wanted that twisted theme for their debut album and future albums they will release.

Lyrics to Fall of Idolatry's album titled song, "Throne of Woes"
Written by
DrkKaiser (Many thanks to him for hooking it up!)
This kingdom I've come to see
Lay in ruins of it's own
The golden houses glimmer
And the ivory shines like bone
The banners in the rafters
flap about from winds
borne upon the cloudless sky
and cast in the emptiness within
The many streets lay bare
the kingdom's servants here all gone
The commoners stay there they stand
Twisted visions bled by their image of a god
Broken dreams and sorrows
Are all who reside here
Because upon the broken throne of woes
No one can be king here.
[Chorus]
[Verse 1]
You try to sit upon a throne that was never yours
The cost of avarice is eternal condemnation
A million deaths you'll face upon that golden throne
And never will you be able to reclaim the life that was your own
[Verse 2]
A throne of agony and regret is your just reward
for the avarice you have claimed, there is no greater form
Of punishment that you could be bestowed, or agony unending
It will rip your flesh from bone, and make you pay with screams
[Chorus End]
The kingdom you now own is nothing more than paper thin
Attempts to hide the real you, the one which writhes in agony
The thin veil of gold and bone, is all that hides the truth
for when you fade another shall shall rise to take your place
And find the regrettable truth
The color of tragedy is as blackened as your soul
The agony you face is your sacrifice to all
And at the end of it all
When all is said and done
When death does come for you
It's only just begun
[Chorus]
[Verse 1]
You try to sit upon a throne that was never yours
The cost of avarice is eternal condemnation
A million deaths you'll face upon that golden throne
And never will you be able to reclaim the life that was your own
[Verse 2]
