Error, software coding anomaly detected
“Dammit!” Tiger shouted as he flung himself back against his chair scratching his head “uuuuggghhhh whhyyyyyyy?!” he said aggressively as he stared into the bright computer screen full of open windows.
Countless nights the striped cat has stayed awake, working restlessly trying to restore the digital life form he discovered to working order. He knew going into it that it was going to be no easy task making new code to fill in the blanks of a program he didn’t even make, but he was in no way prepared to handle so many failed attempts. He slouched back in his chair looking at the screen taking a few seconds to mentally prepare himself before going through the whole thing again. He adjusted his posture so he sat upright and took a deep breath trying to fill himself with new confidence and held onto it as he got right back to work.
Despite having major bags under his eyes he returned to the keyboard and grabbed the mouse and scrolled through the large wall of coding he had tried to fix and started carefully reading through it from the very top to see if he made any errors. As he reached the end of the first quarter of coding he spotted the first error in the massive information cluster “are you serious? How did I let that slide? Man do I feel silly now” he said to himself as he highlighted the erroneous text and deleted it, starting to type up a new fresh line of code. As soon as he finished correcting that error he resumed scrolling down through the page. He watched all the symbolic letters and numbers pass through his gaze trying to keep an eye out for any possible overlooked mistakes.
Soon enough his eyelids started to get heavy and slowly begin to shut on him. Before they can shut he quickly comes back to his senses opening them widely and slightly shaking his head. Making sure he doesn’t zone out again he reached for his energy drink and gulped down whatever was left in it. He had lost count of how many cans he has downed but seeing as how he was almost finished the number of drinks he put away seemed irrelevant if not necessary. Getting one more initial buzzing boost from the sugary drink woke him right back up and put him back on track with all his attention tuned to the task at hand.
He quickly spotted another overlooked error that he somehow forgot to touch on “whoops. How did I forget to correct that, lets see here” he thought to himself as he looked at the coding gap and started to think how he could bridge the two lines of code together seamlessly. As he thought about the proper text to write his mind attempted to multitask as it began to slightly drift thinking about how nice it would be to take a vacation from the Macrovers compound and use some of his paid vacation days to take off with jasmine somewhere exotic. Slowly without even noticing it he stopped thinking about a solution for his coding problem and thought more about a tropical beach with clear blue skies and a endless crystal clear ocean with a pleasant breeze rolling in. he let out a relaxed sigh just thinking about having soft sand between his feet as he walks along the waters edge with a drink in his hand and his beloved Amazonian tigress holding his other hand. Suddenly a very loud call back to reality sounded off as one of the cans rolled of the desk and hit the ground, giving him quite a startle, yanking him off of his fantasy island. He saw the screen and was surprised he forgot about it and got right back into it like he had someone watching over his shoulder ready to bust his chops the second he slacked off. With full focus back on the coding problem he quickly figured out a solution and typed it into its place and resumed scrolling.
Trying his best to ignore that it was already five in the morning he continued to scroll through the list. He rested his chin in his paw becoming slightly irritated thinking about the dozens of times he’s had to scroll through the seemingly endless list of codes to fix each and every little error. Finally he reached the bottom once more and scrolls over to the program initialization command and takes a deep breath and closes his eyes mentally crossing his fingers as he clicks it waiting for the end result. “Come on come on come on” he muttered to himself hoping he has made the last revision necessary and thus making the program run correctly. After a while he hesitantly opens an eye and peeks at the screen only to see the same error message as before
“Error, software anomaly detected.”
“Oh come on noooooooo! I thought I had it that time!”
He groans as he slouches over the keyboard even more resentful than last time of revising it all over again. With his head down he scrolls back up the towering code waiting to hit the top once more so he can start again. Eventually he looks back to his screen with a disappointing stare. As he tries to think of other things to distract him he recalls some of the questions he had earlier on about this program.
“Adaptive War Program. What in the world could that mean? Is this program even legal? Should I even be tinkering with this? I hope this doesn’t wind up backfiring on me” he thought subconsciously to himself. Not once did he stop to ponder the possible repercussions of his eager attitude to fix an odd piece of technology. When he first saw the incomplete construct before him he was to awe struck to question any downsides of undertaking such a task. Despite all of the possible hazards that stood before him he was determined to finish this project and make something amazing out of it. Whatever possible threat it posed he would just go back and rewrite the code to remove that threat. Assuming that was a possibility.
Tiger eventually realized that he hit the top of the page a long time ago. But was so caught up in thinking about the what-ifs that he zoned out again. He started to once more slowly comb through the long list of codes to check for anything he may have missed. The scrolling goes on for a while and not a single code error in sight. He then switches from manually scrolling with the pad of his paw to the automatic scroll feature and props his head up with his paws watching the slow moving window keeping his still tired eyes locked on looking for their target.
As he continued to gaze on at the brightly lit up screen he let his mind wander. When he finally fixes this unending cluster of coding, what will it give life to? What program will be born from this? How useful would it be? Surely it would be a truly revolutionary piece of software if it had files this large and sensitive to errors. Perhaps after he finally finishes rewriting the corrupted code he could somehow implement it into his power glove therefore making a major improvement. Maybe it could even resolve the constantly reoccurring feedback issue that many of the movers within the company suffer from. A light smile came across his face when he thought about the praise he would get if that were the actual outcome. He would be the talk of the compound for solving a problem that has plagued them for so long when others could not. He may even get a pay raise or something of even better value; praise from jasmine. Receiving recognition from his lover was something he valued above all else.
He could only imagine the praise he would get from her. The more he pondered the thought, the more he came focused he became on that subject. He began to unknowingly shut his heavy eyelids letting his mind wander. Almost completely forgetting about his task at hand the computer screen continued to scroll through the unending list which was now going unchecked. Tiger slowly let his head slide down and rest into his arms and relaxed as the buzz from all the energy drinks he was jacked on has finally wore off, causing him to crash right into a deep slumber. Tiger sat there at his desk dreaming contently catching up on desperately needed sleep that he had been skipping out on for so long and wasn’t waking up anytime soon.
The low hum of the computer and tiger’s constant snoring was the only noise in the room present at the time. The computer finished scrolling down the list and came to a halt, where it would stay for the remainder of the night, unchecked and still not completely functional. Hours passed by and the computer went into standby mode displaying a screensaver of a slideshow of pictures of tiger and jasmine and all of their times together.
A few more minutes pass until suddenly his computer’s idle hum turns into a buzzing as the processor starts to go to work along with all the other electronics working in tandem with it. The monitor flickers back on and a pop-up opens on the screen with a single loading bar on it. Right above the bar it read “detecting software anomalies. Initiating code repair sequence” Eventually the window finishes with its loading bar and disappears quickly. Suddenly another window pops up and almost instantly becomes filled with data that was rapidly being processed. At the same time the unending wall of code behind the small pop up that tiger worked so hard on begins to scroll back through all by itself. As the first window autonomously scrolls though it begins to highlight certain clusters of code and rewrites them completely and moves on to correct more codes. This process goes on for a few minutes until both screens finally come to a halt and the words “code restored. executing program” flashes on a third window that pops up and then all three close out leaving his computer screen blank.
Minutes pass by in silence. And suddenly one more window opens up in the center of his screen displaying a single message “detecting new software. Initializing adaptation system launch” Suddenly the camera on top of Tiger’s computer lights up turning on and begins to scan the room. Once it finishes observing the area, lasers project out of the center of the small camera and begin to rapidly move and display a figure in the open space behind tiger. A hologram projection manifests itself from the camera and takes shape. It appears to be the incomplete fractured figure projected before only this time it seems to be completed with a full detailed figure from head to toe, Complete with all the necessary features that tiger may have knowingly or unknowingly programmed him with. The digital creature holds his hand up observing what the camera is projecting before him. He then looks down at the sleeping feline before him and leans over him observing Tiger in his deep slumber. As his eyes scan over him his new creator the computer pulls open windows of data sheets and profiles, all holding information on tiger. The digital life form observes the screen and then looks back down at him with an interested look on his face. He rubs his chin with curiosity as one more tiny screen opens up with a empty text box and words above it reading “ADMIN registration, please enter name” with that the awaiting text box quickly fills itself out with the one name he has already been familiarized with. The window blinks and displays one final text. “Entry accepted. New ADMIN registered; Tiger Claw
