I'm not even going to attempt to identify what species these adorable little flutterbys are. All I know is that Kani and I were walking about in Venice Beach when I spotted this pair. The butterfly in the air is the male, doing a mid-air dance for the lady who's watching below. He would flutter, then swoop gently down, circle to the left and right, flutter up... repeat. Very neat to watch. Unfortunately, he wasn't successful, despite a dance that Kani and I watched for well over five minutes. The lady just wasn't having any. :)
EDIT:
has kindly informed me that this pretty pair are Gulf Fritillaries, and lovely they are!
