Found this handsome fellow on a bush in Franklin Canyon in Los Angeles on one of my long hikes.
Having trouble identifying this species, but I think it's a variety of Admiral. Most likely species that I can find that's a match: Lorquin's Admiral (Limenitis lorquini).
The website I used to identify it: http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/images?l=1790 Anyone who likes butterflies and wants to identify them, this site is invaluable.

Actually, this is a very common species found all over the West Coast of the U.S. Franklin Canyon is a great place for minor nature photography, though- migratory birds like the little pond and the man-made lake, there at least three species of raptor that I've seen there (Ospreys and two species of hawk), there's probably a couple of species of owl, too. I get to see two different species of frog, any number of small songbirds such as virios, sparrows, black-birds and the like. Rodents abound: ground-squirrels, mice and I got to see (and photograph) a rarely seen wood rat. Deer live up there, and I've found scat from coyotes, startled and photographed two possible species of fence lizard and seen signs of snakes, but not actually seeing any of them. Butterflies that I've seen are various Admirals, Mourning Cloaks, Painted Ladies, Buckeye butterflies and a couple of sulfurs, fritillaries of all sorts, things that look like Monarchs (there are several species that mimic or are related to them) and one species I've been trying without success to catch in a picture: it's a gorgeous yellow with black banding, blue spots on the lower wings and a possible spot of red here and there. Amazing looking thing- looks like a yellow Monarch... Possibilities of what it could be: an Anise Swallowtail, an Old World Swallowtail, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (I'm leaning toward this species because the blue and red spots are obvious). There are also Canadian, Western, Appalachian, and Two-Tailed Tiger Swallowtails that look very similar to each other, especially when in flight... ...which is when I always see them and they're always too far off to get a good photo. I'll follow the elusive things for as long as I can, but I never get close enough because they're so shy. But I'll get a pic eventually. Heh.
I'm easily distracted by pretty things OOH! SHINY!
But yeah, I'd noticed I had a lot of pretty pix that needed to be seen, so I did an image dump. I've always had an interest in photography, just never had an opportunity to play around with a camera before last year. Never used a camera in my life, either until about three years ago. No worries, there will always be a wide variety of neatness in my gallery: costumes, photos, jewelry, digital and traditional art...

The Serect of NYMH Jeremy, "Oooo A sparkly!" Ahh I loved that ADHD bird!
Careful or you might end up with a collage of this that and the other thing on your page like I've gone and done. Lol. And with you dear I never worry, I get concerned at times but I know you are a very capable woman.
Heck After almost twenty years I'm actually drawing again! Not just thumbnails and doodles anymore. That River Pig took my steady hand a way from me and it took the Big "C", a lot of time in a taxi to and from appointments to get it back. I even draw on the move now so all I have to do is practice. I know my anatomy has always been a very weak (Sux actually lol) point in my art but my busts are still okay I guess. There are days I wish I hadn't given my art away just so that I could have a few references of what my style was like.
Did I draw horses back then too? What did I draw or do as an artist? Damn I wish I could remember more than I do some times just for the good stuffs eh.
*Huggles*

Actually, I don't remember very much art form you. Mostly stuff for D&D- that Helix Eucimont guy. There might have been a horse or two in there. I think you tried to draw us as dragons, too, but I'm not sure.
And whaddya mean- you "get concerned at times"? *gives you the shifty eye*
A buddy of mine once was walking with me in Osborne Village and we were yakking about some random nothings, when I stopped to pick something up from the ground. He kept on walking, not realizing I'd stopped. Wondering why I suddenly went silent, he turned around to see me catching up to him. I explained what I'd been doing and he giggled and sez "You sure you aren't part magpie?" And I answered like a crow- "CAW! SHINY!" Cracked him right up. I still get a cackle out of hium when I do that...
