Muscle and bone groaned in unison as Molly ‘Tank’, took her seat upon the bench. Easing herself into a slightly less uncomfortable position she looked out at the skyline as the sun set on her and the city.
The golden sky shimmed upon her fur. It was a very gentle warmth, but it brought up memories she know she’d never be able to put down. Even with the airport’s constant roar of conversations she was sure she could hear an echoing scream.
“…I’m going home… I should be smiling.”
She looked to the empty seats beside her and took a pained breath.
“ isn’t how it was supposed to go down… You guys are supposed to be here with me.”
“Who’s going to tease me about being the manliest one on the team… who’s going to go keep telling us all how damn wonderful New York City is…”
Her hands began to clench as she closed her eyes, “Who’s… who’s always got my back?”
Grinding her teeth she tried to suppress the pain but it wasn’t something she could shrug off as easily as shrapnel wounds.
She held herself in check ignoring the bustling world around her; tell she felt someone step towards her. Instantly her eyes bolted open to find a small child staring with eyes wide.
The girl looked back with a worried curious gaze as she clung to her stuffed rabbit. Molly shifted a bit. She was never really self-conscious, but she had never been covered with so many stitches before.
Leaning in toward the girl Molly give her a soft smile, “It’s because my daddy was a teddy bear.”
Giggling the girl’s face lit up. “Neat!” Giving Molly a shy wave she squeezed her rabbit and scampered off.

That's surprisingly poigniant. Good work, my man.
...of course, knowing the weird world that your characters inhabit, odds are pretty good that she'll end up with the ghost of one of her platoon mates living in her head, while another one comes back as a zombie and crashes on her couch, because the VA won't pay benefits after you die.

Man... Drakefenwick hun... you've no idea how close to the heart this pic will likely come to a friend of mine that finally made it back stateside when his squad was wiped out... The story makes it even better. And his fursona IS a bear. Thank you for a wonderfully heart-felt showing. And thank you, all the more, for sharing your artwork with all us 'moochers'.
Proud warrior returning home. She's not feeling the pain of her scars and battle wounds, but the empty silence that gnaws away at her heart and mind.
But there's still a little glimmer of strength left in her, evident in her playful response to ease the young innocents mind.
Now the new battle begins, to carry on without those familiar voices she misses so dearly.
Very well done.

That can be explained by this following math problem.
In the room there are ten students, and each of them is sitting at their own desk.
Four of the students are boys; six of the students are girls.
Three of the students have at least one apple on their desk. There are four apples in the room.
Seven of the students have books in their desks, there are twelve books in the room.
Nine of the students are no longer have their virginity. There is one virgin in the room.
Given this information, who is most likely to reach the loaded shotgun (pump-action, five shells, 12 gauge) and kill their zombie principal before he sacrifices the hot, liberal minded, student teacher, thus earning the hero(ine) right to score with said S.A.?

I'd like to echo the general response involving warm fuzzies and heart touching yatta yatta.
And then I'd like to resume the thought I was thinking from the moment I saw the title of the pic, from before I got distracted by the great story:
"Is there a surname that starts with the letters 'Tov'?"

Very powerful, there are some who deal with this same thing everyday. I know, I see it and have been through the same thing, and it is very lonely sometimes, but like your story shows...sometimes just some times, the smallest thing can make you feel just a bit better. Thank you!
The whole read I was sitting there wondering what the random sex joke would be. This was a very nice change of pace, and I have to say, I actually care about the character.
As always, both with the sex and humor, and with the few serious things Ive read from you, great writing.

Excellent piece of prose, man. Tugs at heart strings and gives you a good dose of the bittersweet fuzzies. Oh yeah, and the piece is at your standard level of awesome. I love it when someone with a reputation for comedy, eye candy, or comedy eye candy busts out a piece like this to reveal how multitalented they are. Bravo.
