"Take a deep breath, try to calm your mind dear."
"...hhhh..."
Knelt down by the ragged child, Hazel placed a hand on the child's arm in an attempt to reach out to her. She was not expecting this change of her normal 'routine' of seeing this child and giving her some type of provision for the day. Instead on this day, she found the child in a fetal position in the middle of alley with pained cries and shaking rather violently. When she moved in closer she had let out a quiet gasp as the sight before her shocked her but also gave her a feeling of sadness. The child's arm was covered in jagged spikes that seemed to look almost as they have taken on a ston-like texture. To anyone else on the outside they would have though the child mutated into some sort of freak but to Hazel... this was just another sad day to remind her of what she was, a shapeshifter.
The child gave a few deep but harsh breaths as her spikes finally began to receded back into her skin. She struggled to get herself up but was at best just a couple of limp movements of her arms as she was too weak to get up. Instead she moved her gaze at Hazel whom she can only make out to be a blur with her vision going in and out. Hazel could not justify leaving the child to go through this transformation out of the streets in her condition. With a quick movement she scooped up the child into her arms and cradled her close to her. Hazel looked down at the child and frowned, it was not looking good for this one, she needed to act fast.
Hazel did the only thing she could do now, she began to run back home. There was no time to waste as the clock was ticking on if the child was going to pull through this transformation or not.
Doodle from my sketch that I really like a lot to the point I wanted to color it. ;w; Azelia's backstory out of the all children is probably the worst as she was a child of abuse by her biological parents. She ran away early on and even had managed to escape an oprhanage because of the mistrust she had towards any adult. Many attempts were made to catch her or gain her trust but she had grown wise and adapted well to the world around her. However this did not stop Hazel or Cynthia from trying to reach out to the child by providing her with food, beverages and even other provisions to help the child survive.
In the end Azelia did pull through her transformation, it was a close call but she managed. She realized that these adults she came to mistrust that it just took the love and care of this young couple to have her decide on becoming a part of their family.
