Stupid growing up and all that, gotta ruin everything, eh?
But why doesn't King just shapeshift into a child? Because, well, he's lazy. It'd take a lot of effort on his part of either walking about as a very fat child, or finding an easy way to rid himself of excess bodymass so he could be a convincing child, only to try and gain it back later.
