Happy Halloween everybody! =D
Here is the first of three Trick-or-Treat stories I've been working on all month so I hope you enjoy!
These two trick-or-treaters, who aren't sisters despite most of the people giving them candy assuming such, are my new little shiny puppy girl Marigold and Ruby (who is owned by my good friend
Tacky)...
Will give individual details about them in their solo pictures (which will be linked after the story) when they're posted up, so for now just enjoy this cute little story I put together for them! =D
Taking a moment to make sure all the cackling plastic pumpkaboos were lined up properly on the shelves Ms. Calico stepped back to admire a job well done. The meowstic woman might run multiple different business over the course of the year… but this one was always her favorite. Spooky's Halloween, costumes and decorations open all the way up till the big night itself. She'd always loved Halloween ever since she was little so helping other people make their All Hallows Eve special was a delight for her. Especially when it came to costumes. She always treasured the looks on little faces (and a few big ones) when they found that perfect costume to go trick-or-treating with or to wear to a party…
Though she was at a loss for the moment since the store was unusually quiet. It was after-school and she'd expected some customers if not a rush of little last minute costume shoppers. She'd just have to wait for someone to come along...
The ring of the bell attached to the door told her that wait was over. Turning to greet her customer with a smile Ms. Calico found it was a mightyena in his thirties at the oldest and a precious little poochyena who looked like she'd just been picked up from grade school, lower grade school judging by her appearance. Poor little thing was shy. She kept close to the mightyena's legs, her blushy face peeking out at the cat as the older dog walked over to her. "Hi there, I was wondering if you could help me find a Halloween costume for my niece." he said, flashing her a friendly smile "She's staying with me for a while and it's her first Halloween in Viridian so I wanted to make it special."
Before she could ask if the pretty little girl was the niece in question the mightyena continued "She's about this tall." he held his paw up to indicate roughly three feet from the floor meaning the little girl in question was a probably a toddler between the ages 3 and 4 "And we're also here to see about a costume for this precious little pup~" he added, gently placing a paw on the poochyena's head in an affectionate gesture "So, do you have any suggestions?" That question got a smile from the Meowstic. She did in fact have a few suggestions… but first there was something more important to confirm.
Kneeling down she smiled to the puppy "So is this your baby sister or baby cousin we're picking out a costume for~?" she asked, using her tried and true "Nice, friendly grown-up" voice she'd perfected working with a multiple of little kids over the years. And was immediately disappointed as the little pup flinched away shyly and looked up to the bigger doggy pleadingly, wanting him to answer for her. “Baby sister~” he said, an amused smile on his face as he gently ruffled the puppy’s hair. “Well then-” Ms. Calico said, hoping to help the pup relax a little “lets go pick out a cute costume for her! And who knows, we might be able to find one for you that goes with it. Wouldn’t that be nice?” she added… feeling quite pleased to get a timid nod from the blushing pup before she lead them through the store.
Aside from an incident where the little pup got spooked by an inflatable cofagrigus the trip to the toddler section went swiftly as the meowstic led them along. She had just the costume in mind to make the Halloween Night special for the little one… as she realized she’d forgotten to ask an important question for this sort of outfit. “Does the little one-” she said, turning to look at the doggies “Still wear diapers?” Whether or not a costume could be quickly taken off for a diaper change was pretty vital when it came to suiting up really little kids after all. “Yes, yes she does so we’ll need a costume that keeps that in mind.” the mightyena said as the poochyena seemed to blush all the more for some reason, doing her best to look everywhere BUT the cat. “Alright then, in that case-” sliding her paws through the racks she pulled out the costume she’d been eyeing “then I think this might be perfect for your little one’s Halloween!”
“That is perfect!” the mightyena said, grinning happily and obviously already picture his baby niece wearing it. Considering several parents considered these kinds of costumes too traditional or silly for their babies Ms. Calico was pleasant surprised. A small but adorable giggle turned her attention to the puppy as she knelt down and held the costume out to her “What do you think~? Think your baby sister will look adorable in this?” she asked gently. “U-uh huh, she’ll look really adorable.” the puppy said, nodding as the meowstic beamed at having gotten the shy poochyena to speak. “Great! And I think I know a costume that’d look just precious on you as you help your baby sister trick or treat… would you like that?” The puppy’s eager nods chased away Ms. Calico’s earlier disappointment over spooking the pup~
****************
The meowstic was beaming as she waved goodbye to the two doggies, their purchases bagged away and in their arms as they left the store. The little poochyena’s awestruck face and furiously wagging tail when Ms. Calico had shown her the costume she’d had in mind was going to be something the older cat would treasure for a while to come. Not to mention how excited the girl had been to try it on and how cute it’d looked on her. The cat’s only regret was she wouldn’t get to see how the baby sister looked in her costume… but you can’t have everything. Either way she was pretty sure after that little injection of happiness her day was going to be smooth sailing no matter who came into the store-
As the bell chimed and she looked up to watch… three, four five… six, six little kids (the oldest might be a first grader but she was having trouble picturing the rest of them in anything past a kindergarten class) being herded into the store by a lone miltank. Her prior working experience with kids, particularly large groups of little kids, told her smooth sailing was gonna be the LAST thing she’d have this afternoon. To Be Continued...
