What's that? Love? Yes I did mention loving Chi before. Don't tell me you fancy someone now? Hahaha, I am going to make you tell me all about them. My love? Well there are the good and bad sides to love. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy and happy one day. However if you fight, disagree, or worry one another it can be one of the worst feelings. It is a double edged sword but i is one worth wielding. I mean look at our family. I couldn't imagine life without them all. Of course at one time I couldn't imagine life without the flock either. Why don't I tell you about my first double edged blade called love.
Theo's looked up happily at Chi. She was struggling but the pebbles coming off the overhang a sure sign it was loosening. His tail wagged just imagining the taste of the berried plant. He had discovered quite some time ago plants were ten times better than meat. Though they were so scarce it was like nothing but a treat he found once and awhile.
"You can do it Chi," he called up to the hawkmon. With a last grunt she managed to pull it out. The sudden lack of resistance making her go heels over head before catching herself again.
"Definitely a work out," she huffed and puffed as she landed. Tossing the small scarcely berried brush to the ground between them.
"Thank you," Theos said digging in. He would have gotten it himself but he couldn't walk upside down. Chi chuckled as she watched him.
Chi was always kind to him. She also hanged out with him more than the others. The boys had taken to sky wrestling basically and so has her one tom boy of a sister. Not that she had much room to talk. She could fight with the best of them but she didn't seek out conflict. Theos felt the same conflict is best avoided and if it is unavoidable then simply defend yourself or who you are trying to protect.
"I think it is curious how you got fangs but don't care for meat," Chi said sitting on a rock.
"I think its weird too. Though I have used them to eat rocks before they are kind of tasty. Especially the light grey ones flecked with white. They are salty," Theos said patting at the now barren branches left behind.
"Another thing I don't get," Chi said chuckling. "You're such a weird digimon."
"I like being weird," Theos lied. He had always wished to be like the others and able to fly. Maybe he would feel accepted if he had wings.
"i like your weirdness too," Chi said smiling.
"Really," Theos questioned.
"Yes really. I would be boring if there wasn't a weirdo like you around," Chi teased and laughed. Theos chuckled with her.
"Well thanks for liking this weirdo," Theos responded. His face sobering rather quickly. "Hey why don't we go to our hideout?"
"Sure, we go some time til our dinner," Chi said taking flight. "Race ya."
"Ah, no fair," Theos called out as he ran after her.
I don't remember how many times I practiced those lines I wanted to say to her in that cave. I had finally worked up the courage to tell her. Her saying she liked me only bolstered it. I had a good feeling about telling her about my love and admiration. How when even a thousand birds were in the sky my eyes were only on her. Eww? Hahaha, I must admit even now I am a bit of a hopeless romantic. I think being romantic comes with age. Don't worry well before you're my age you'll be spouting the same nonsense. Never? Ha, we'll see about that.
Theos traveled a well known and well beaten path up their cave. He squeezed in through the narrow crack. They both knew they wouldn't be able to come here for much longer. Not with them growing in size. That is why it had to be in here. His first confession of love.
"Slowpoke," Chi teased. She was already sitting by the water. The glowing moss making a blue like light as it bounced off the blue crystals around the cave. Theos smiled and lay down beside her.
"It's because you fly and don't run. In a foot race I'd beat you paws down," Theos said chuckling.
"Well we'll try that sometime. Don't think I'll let you win though. Girl got a reputation to keep after all," Chi said chuckling.
"Yeah," Theos said letting the conversation die. Butterflies churned his stomach at the thought of what he wanted to say. Chi cocked her head at him.
"You alright," Chi asked worried for his sudden quietness.
"I love you," Theos said quickly and jolting up into sitting position. He could see Chi go wide eyed in surprise before calming down.
"Love you too," Chi responded her gaze questioning him. Unsure what was going on.
"I mean as more," Theos said his head drooping slightly as his hoof trailed the rocks.
Chi was silent a long moment. "Mom and dad both told me I can't be with a digimon that can't fly. Grounding us means death," Chi said after a moment. Her words were crestfallen.
"You can still fly! I won't ground you ever," Theos responded.
"You don't get it," Chi yelled standing up nearly bumping her head. "They aren't talking about me. They are talking about you. You can't fly away from danger! If we had kids some of them wouldn't be able to fly. Mother says there is no stronger love than parent and child. That if we have grounded babies we'll die trying to protect those that can't fly and orphaning those that can. It's a rule Theos. We can't be grounded!"
Theos ears went back as he listened. Tears starting to come from his eyes. He had been out right rejected all because of her parents teachings.
"What if I could get your fathers approval," Theos asked, begged, hoped that it would be enough. Chi was silent for a moment and Theos slowly prepared himself for rejection once more.
"If father approves...okay," Chi said softly.
She knew though what his answer would be. And to be honest a part of me also knew. I just didn't want to believe; I wanted to hold onto that hope that it was possible. Because I had lived with them for so long. Even if it was just outside the nest.
Theos nodded and ran out of the cave. The walls scraping at his sides as he rushed out. Eager for her fathers permission. Chi remained there sitting down heavily to cry.
Theos stopped short of the nest breathing heavily. He puffed out his chest a bit and stood on his hind legs looking over into the nest. At the moment only Chi's mother was there. A faint disappointment set it but he knew he would be back soon with supper.
Theos waited impatiently until the big shadow passed over head. He jumped up and looked into the nest to see their father there with the newest prey. Theos took a deep breath.
"Excuse me," he called up to the golden eaglemon. He turned end eyed him with Theos could only feel as a glare.
"Yes hatchling," his deep voice answered.
"I'd..." Theos gulped. The butterflies were back. "Like to ask for Chi's talon," he said slightly flushed. A dead silence rang in his ears along with the flow of his own pounding heartbeat.
"You can not ground her," He said turning his full body towards Theos. His anger apparent. "Begone and do not return. It is better if you disappear or you will find yourself living a short life."
Theos blood ran cold and he backed away from the nest. He looked to Chi's mother but even she glared at him. Then he looked to the other nests nearby. Their glares all seeming to penetrate him. It felt surreal and Chi's father stepped onto the edge of the nest towering over him. He made a swipe at Theos making him cower a moment. Theos shook and finally ran tears streaming down his face.
At that point I had never known heart ache like that. My chest was being torn open. The digimon I believed to be family glared at me. I was shunned and rejected and I just wanted to disappear. I had cut myself deeply with my own blade. I ran for hours with no place to go. Tears blurring my vision until I finally lost footing and fell into a shallow canyon. The darkness of its rift matching my heart and I just lay there aching body and soul. I cried myself to sleep wishing for it to all disappear.
Heartbreak is a terrible thing. It feels like the end of the world for a time. However if you continue living you may find your happy ending. I know I found mine. With Kemba and in Coraggio with our family. I can't wait for you to experience life to its fullest. All its up and downs. In the end they are all worth it. Go play young one. I can see my story has sobered you. You are still young you should never be sad for long. When did I finally pick myself up? Well let's save that for tomorrow.
