This is one ráj which I certainly pohled in high regard. ^__^
Granted, the picture you see here doesn't really suggest that just 500 feet up, the wind was blowing with gale force, but that's Czech autumn for you. It's a lesson that I was forced to learn the hard way, that in a week in which I had planned to accomplish so much in my aviation pursuits, Mother Nature will not be rushed, nor will she endeavour to comply with your plans. Oh well. :P
This picture was taken in Lužánky City Park, the oldest municipal park in Czechia. Opened by Austrian Emperor Josef II in 1786, the park was donated to the city of Brno, and has been in its current form since 1840. The park is also very close to the Villa Tugendhat, completed in 1930 as one of the earliest examples of modern architecture in Europe, and the place where the document splitting Czechia from Slovakia was signed, in 1992.
Hope you enjoy!

What I failed to include in my description was that he dissolved a Jesuit religious institution to create the park, so you're right, he wasn't the most popular of the Habsburgs. The Encyclopedia Britannica rather aptly described him as "an enlightened despot", so you can get from that what you wish. ^__^
Thanks for your kind comment and fave! I greatly appreciate them.

I remember taking a group of 6 students to a Model United Nations conference in Cardiff, about 18 months ago, and when we got off the train, they all remarked at how much cleaner the air was compared to Kent and London. If the air in Cardiff is cleaner, then I dread to think what I've been breathing all my life, in the valleys.
two things interest me, besides trees, rocks and little furry creatures:
narrow gauge railways,
and the cultural diversity that existed before 'christianity'
(or greece, rome and any brand name religions and ideologies for that matter)
came along and screwed it up.
(speculation on the cultural diversity of other worlds interest me too,
and possible or imaginable technologies,
and for that matter, harmonizing the ones that we have,
with our own natural environment)
twisty and strange is what makes beautiful.

It's no secret that the Czechs are among the most atheistic peoples on the planet; 400 years of religious conflict is liable to drive people away from it, altogether. While the grand cathedrals and monasteries remain, they are viewed as essential to the cultural well being of the Czech nation, as lessons of the past to create a better future.
