I really like Harvester Ants and was able to take some nice photos of them today.
Harvester Ants are the main diet of the Desert Horned Lizards, and are unfortunately on the decline due to invasive Fire Ants and Argentine Ants, which of course effects the lizards as well.

Harvester ants form small isolated colonies while fire ants are very fast breeders who can quickly create large colonies. Argentine ants are an especially problematic invasive species as they form linked cooperative colonies each with multiple queens. They also do better in urban environments than other species as humans will tend to ignore them due to their small size and non-aggressive nature while a large species with a painful sting like the harvester ant will generally be exterminated when found.
