Happy Birthday Jezebeth. Even the Princess of Demons has a birthday. I think it was around this time 2 years ago I created her. And May, Spring, seems to be a fitting time for her anyway. In the USA today it is Memorial Day, a holiday I don't really pay much attention to but I guess is somewhat appropriate. More or less. You would understand if you knew her story I guess~

Her "story" is one of love, adventure, and tragedy. Thus the title. It's the title of a track from Batman Begins, which inspired the picture and illustrates Jezebeth almost perfectly. So give a listen if you're into that sort of thing. http://www.deviantart.com/users/out.....?v=8-wIg90lagk

A little bit about her:

Jezebeth is the daughter of Toril, the Queen of Demons, and Maxil's lover in later books. She is young, but wise, and a beauty coveted by many demons and mortal kings. She travels between realms as an ambassador for her mother, to talk as many mortals into joining their side as possible. Many are enchanted by her beauty, her wit, and her charm.

She is the ward of a demigod Toril captured to raise her, but in reality he taught Jezebeth to use her power for good and not evil and gave her access to many old scriptures and ancient texts that allow her to use the most sacred of spells and to understand the world around her. She radiates innocence and childish honesty. Maxil constantly badgers her and calls her a baby because she tends to act like one, but when cornered she becomes a strong figure of wisdom and ruthless vengeance. Some of that she gains from both her bloodline and her mother, but she also gets it from Maxil who, naturally, tries to corrupt her whenever possible.

Jezebeth also holds a key to the entirety that is Malthoria and the demon world and because of that she is sought after by Sebastian, a man more terrible than many demons she has met, and becomes the center of his quest for power. Naturally, wars begin, personal vendettas are formed, and a story of tragedy and revenge begins all centered around her. It's hard to really describe it without giving away spoilers but I felt like musing for a while

“I spoke to the Oracle,” Jezebeth said vaguely, just in case Adaru’s spies lurked nearby. “The night before last.”

“So?” Maxil tilted his head solemnly in her direction, interested. “What did she tell you?”

Jezebeth let the new gold chain around her neck settle in her palm along with the falling snow. Across the frozen lake the trees rustled quietly. Villagers walked along the merchant streets talking joyfully to one another. Under the gazebo roof, with this man beside her, she felt at peace. She wanted to soak it all in. “She told me that one day, I will have to choose between you and Malthoria.” Maxil leaned against the pillar, silent and ever vigilant. “If I choose Malthoria, I will live forever. I will be a symbol, a leader to my people. I will unite nations, kingdoms, and create unimaginable wonders which have never been seen by the eyes of man.”

Maxil shifted uneasily and directed his attention to the forest. He intently watched a bird shake the snow off its feathers. “And if you chose me?”

Jezebeth’s heart fluttered. “If I chose you, I would live--”

“In darkness,” Maxil finished the sentence for her. The answer had been simple. Her eyes fell to the gold chain in her hand, the sterling dragon that engulfed two red orbs.

“Yes,” she said faintly, then she smiled. She tucked the chain into her white fur coat and folded her hands neatly in front of her. “With you I would live in darkness, shrouded from the world. However,” her red eyes gazed upward in his direction. She thought she saw his hard edged attitude soften, “I am sure that I could see the world. I could be me the me I always knew I could be.” She tousled the tassels on her fur lined hood. “It may not be immortality or a throne to strike fear in the heart of humans, but…”

“But?”

“I am not so sure I want to live forever.”
