I'm a terrible person, the mental image I got at "a dozen puppies with dollar signs over their heads looking at a frightened daddy dog" was more out of Spelunky. With the puppies being in a shop, and a canine version of the... well, it's hard to call him a hero, so let's just say "protagonist", or "the player character" plotting how to murder the shopkeeper to get the puppies for free.
