It was a magnificent night. Ponies of all sorts danced and mingled in the court room of the castle. The Gala was a great time for just relaxing and breathing, especially for a princess. However, a few ponies still tried to be business with Celestia or her sister. Luna wouldn't have it. She wanted to spend the night free of duty and stress. A howl of laughter came across the room. Mernah and her friends were at a table and someone said something to make them all laugh. Other ponies were distracted by it, but paid no mind once they realized who it was making all the noise.
"You are always the noise of the party" Luna stated as she strolled up.
The Minotaur wiped a tear from his eyes and tried to speak through the chuckles. "That's our job, Princess."
"You were the one who invited us. I know you knew this would happen," Blue said before taking a swig of her drink.
Luna smiled politely. "Of course I knew."
The dragon pulled her chair back on four legs before standing up. "I'll meet back with you guys in a bit." Mernah walked up to Luna and motioned her hand to the door to the garden. "Shall we, my dear?"
Luna agreed and they both took their strides toward the door. Somber silence encompassed the two as they paced through the garden. A gentle clawed hand had found its rest on Luna's back, stroking along.
"It is a beautiful night." The silence was broken by the dragon as she gazed upon the moon above. Clouds passed overhead where the moon's glow brightened their darker demeanor.
"I hope so," was all Luna responded with.
A moment later, Mernah bent down and grabbed the Princess' front hooves. Luna began to inquire before being cut off with slight vertigo as Mernah picked her up on her back legs. Mernah wrapped an arm around her frame and held the hoof in the other. As the music softly played in the background, they danced to its soft melody.
"Where did you learn to dance?" Luna asked as she was gently twirled away and brought back into grasp.
"A book. And a lot of practice," Mernah replied.
"Of course it was." Luna could hardly get the dragon away from a book nowadays. She was almost surprised when she came to the Gala without one. She was torn from her thought by bright blue eyes staring into hers. They were soft and kind, and a smile only added to this. She felt her eyes melt to relax with hers. A warm feeling softly burned within her chest. They danced, their eyes not breaking contact. It was only then that Luna was finally able to come to the conclusion she pondered months earlier. It was then, with the warmth in her chest, that Luna knew exactly what she felt for the dragon before her. Indeed, it was a beautiful night.
This picture and story was brought on by Erik asking in our rp "How do you get Luna to decide if she loves Mernah or not?" It ended with this and a less detailed explanation than I gave you. I am so very satisfied with this. I put it off a while to do some other art but I'm glad I decided to finish it when I did. :D Hope you all enjoy it, too.
Kinda older art compared to what I have now but I wanted to post it anyway
