An alternative version of my Rexar Relaxing 2017 Anniversary Edition piece, featuring Rexar wearing his black/red 'away' football kit. The original blue/white 'home' kit version of this image can be found here.

Funny, that. I personally do prefer the white one, but ever since I uploaded that original compilation of Rexar in his two different football kits, there was this noticeable split among viewers as to which one they preferred - quite vehemently so in some cases.
Now that's a pleasant image to come home from work to! Besides, you've got to learn to appreciate good musk, and huge tender after-whateveraction-you-were-doing soles :P the sheer detail on those wrinkles is phenomenal. And that smile somehow comes more across as warm rather than the more evil-ish smirk on the comparison pic right next to him. Overall? You've made my evening a tad bit more tasty! xD. Thanks for that!

I quite like that you mention the smile. I mentioned in my description on the original pic that this anniversary edition was partly about showing how Rexar has changed and matured as the years have passed by. One of the elements that has developed in that time is his personality, which is more rounded and loving than the snarly, stompy, narcissitic macro he started out as. I was trying to capture that different personality in this picture, so hopefully I achieved that.
I quite like that you mention the smile. I was trying to capture that different personality in this picture, so hopefully I achieved that.
I love blue as a color, but I feel the black here lends itself very well to the colors of Rexar's scales and body. The white and blue stands out more, but this color scheme is way more complementary.
As for the Big Red himself, he definitely does have a softer smile. Gone is that malicious intent, and here he seems more content, more relaxed and more happy. Is this Mike's influence? I can't remember if that Mike and Rexar series you posted was a side story or more or less where you imagined certain characters ending up. The Rexar Universe, if you will. :P Still, of all the changes for Rexar, I like this one the most. It lends more to his 10 year journey as a character than just a big, stompy macro we all know and love. Either is fine, but it seems like you're happy with this change, and that's the most important thing. :)
Now, I feel like there's something else I should be talking about. The clothes? The smile? What else about Rexar could possibly be important? Oh. Yeah. His feet! The details are utterly gorgeous. I want nothing more than to be one of those lucky micro fans who get to be squeezed up into the sweaty folds of that wrinkled sole and squished between those meaty toes. I imagine that musk of his has aged quite nicely. XD But seriously, the techniques you used show off your prowess as artist, and I look forward to hopefully seeing another ten years of your art, and where it will go.

Interesting. See, I do prefer the blue and white myself, and I think it suits him. But the black and red blends more naturally with his skin colours. Everyone's got different preferences - which is one of the benefits of me having designed two kits!
I've explained before that these days, I consider the Snapshots version of Rexar to be 'canon', as it were. Anything that shows him in a totally different light is almost like a parallel universe Rexar. In many respects, I think of all my characters operating in different flexible universes, and I generally don't mix them together. Mike's the only one who I tend to have interact with all of my different characters, largely because he serves as my personal viewpoint. Does that make any sense??

Wonder why the away kits always look so much cooler! At least here in Germany it seems to be like a huge tradition! XD
