Singa tapped the magazine photo of Venti, who wore barista's apron, and a nicely built shark, who wore only a golden posing brief and dark stripes like those found on a tiger. "Who's the handsome shark in this picture?"
Venti looked over to see the picture. "Oh. Hm. I think his name is George. Some surfer dude they wanted to pose with me. Nice guy, we had lunch the other day."
"You make friends so very easily," Singa remarked, flipping through the pages some more.
"So easily some of them come back."
Singa sighed, placing the magazine down on the coffee table then leaned back on the dark upholstery of his sofa. "Oh dear, here we go again."
"What do you mean again?"
"You came over here to bitch about Charles and Damon." Singa kept his eyes on Venti as if daring the jackal to break eye contact first. "Is that why you wanted to come over?"
"No. You're one of my best friends, and if I knew telling you Damon and Charles were back and possibly dating meant you'd think I was going to start bitching about them, I wouldn't have told you at all."
"I knew Damon was back in town regardless." Before Venti could ask, Singa elaborated. "He called me. We chatted."
"That's...nice. Damon's not a bad guy. He just wasn't right for me, and vice versa."
"How mature of you to say that."
"Seriously, there isn't going to be any drama from me about them being back, Singa. Maybe this is an opportunity to overlook the past and try a new start on our friendships. Damon was fun to hang out with, and Charles...could be fun in his own way."
"You certainly thought so when you two were dating."
"It was a mistake dating Charles."
"So you say whenever anyone mentions you and him in the same sentence."
Venti chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head. "I just want to try and let go of that particular past."
"Any success?"
"I'm not angry about the situation, am I?"
"No, but the night is still young." Singa winked mischievously at the jackal.
"Your support of me is so overwhelming."
