Somewhat organically evolving into what it is, Fort is the product of many similar characters becoming fused due to confused fanart.
Originally called Wall they were an artist's interpretation of Nurikabe, which itself was a trend as a cryptid that was the anthropomorphization of invisible walls in games.
Taking inspiration from many sources including Snout from A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Wall Monsters from Knightmare it became a somewhat unowned character that everyone had their own interpretation of.
However to prevent a shouting match it was agreed upon who owned certain aspects of the character's design between all the people who'd used it or variants of it and 1 specific design was chosen and claimed under a single owner.
Something that annoys me in particular since the name "Fort" is from my character which wasn't even based on this trend and had its own separate origins.
It still annoys me that I have to ask every time to use what I thought was my character but thankfully the owner is pretty open about what they allow the character to be used for and it's more of a formality.
One thing that often winds people up is the character's lack of snout or tail which kind of implies they are human because there are a lot of easily aggravated furries out there. Sometimes they are drawn with them but there is an official backstory as to how they lost them.
Just remember that if you want to be accurate they should be drawn with a more rough surface around the mouth and butt where they were broken off.
The animal they are is some sort of hybrid of crocodile with the ability to turn invisible by making themselves transparent. They are in fact made of bricks right the way through their body but like a crate have a rectangular cavity inside they can store items in by removing the bricks on their belly.
None of the bricks are rigidly held in place by any mortar but they do tend to hold their shape and don't slip apart when the character moves quickly or is struck with force.
Fort's eyes are simply painted onto the brickwork but somehow can magically change expression. Similarly their mouth is just a square cut hole in one of the bricks but it also can do so.

lady. i am the original. i helped rip the very first sprites of sonic and helped design the very first edits.
you didn't realize it but you used one of my own edits as your persona for years.
who is copying whom?

"you were 6 placefam"
i helped egoraptor rip sprites directly from the cartridge back in the day. THE egoraptor. It was what he did before he was famous. ask around the oldest members of the sonic community. you'll find it's true.

"really? or just me?"
"i hate them all by proxy."
"that's racist"
"not really. they're all goats because they're your fans anyway."
as long as you mean just the loco and puppy paws guys apart from the original goat club guys i agree on your second point.
but don't hate the species. hate the individual. there are many nice people within my groupies.
