Well, we can be dorks together then! I've loved Pokemon for most of my life, of course they're going to influence me creatively! Pokemon makes me incredibly happy, and so does imagining stories with them, so I couldn't care less what any nay-sayers might say on the subject. :P Do what you enjoy, life's too short not to.
