Hello, everyone!
As the year comes to a close, I've been going through my current artwork folder and moving old art pieces into different folders to keep things organized, and so I can start with a fresh, clean new folder for artwork in 2018. However, as I was doing this I found a lot of sketches from LAST year that I never got around to refining or finishing this year. I do these "purges" at the end of every year, but sometimes I'll keep stuff in the folder from the previous year in hopes of finishing it. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I don't- so here are all the pieces I made in 2016 that I never got around to finishing. I've numbered them so I can briefly talk about them here!
1) Done in June, this was a conceptual sketch as I toyed with the idea of changing one of my current OCs into a different species, that of a Kangaroo-Dragon hybrid. While I thought the idea was fun and did a few other doodles of it, the idea never really got off the ground and I still prefer that character as he remains to this day.
2) Pokemon X and Y came out in 2013, but in April of '16 I wanted to replay the game using a Wonderlocke team. (Unfortunately, XY are INCREDIBLY easy games so I only lost maybe two Pokemon, lol.) I did enjoy it greatly and wanted to draw my end team, but never really had the time/motivation to finish it.
3) Two of my TLK OCs, Khairi and Lerato (my 'sona). These two have a pretty unique and interesting dynamic, and I've always wanted to flesh it out more in Lerato's comic. They are actually half-brothers who suffered from an estranged relationship caused by the generation before them, and have ultimately learned to move past that and become friends. One day, I'd like to make Lerato's comic.
4) Back in April I made this after I thought it might be a good idea to upload something like this so that customers could better communicate with me on what "kind" of digi/planti legs they wanted. I enjoy doing a wide variety of styles and to this day I feel like it's both a strength and a weakness of mine that no two drawings ever look exactly the same in terms of style. Still, I've improved on my anatomy since this sketch so never thought to upload it for use.
5) WURR IS COOL AND YOU SHOULD GO READ IT. *ahem* In September I decided it'd be fun to play around with a fan character in the Wurr universe. This OC never got a proper ref sheet or drawing (or name!), but I enjoyed the stories that jumped into my head when I drew him.
6) Around July of '16, I was finally starting to feel comfortable drawing male torsos, and even beginning to enjoy it! Hands, though, still suck... And even though I still love this drawing, I can't bring myself to ever do anything else with it because the pose relies on that hand position, which I STILL can't get right. ;-;
7) And in June, I doodled my snow leopard taur, Elijah, who never gets enough love. Maybe it's because I still struggle with drawing clothes and weapons, both of which he is always seen with (unlike my other feral/anthro OCs). Still, I liked this sketch enough to upload it to my Twitter at the time!
8) Look at these beautiful, regal cheeseheads. I love drawing Sergals, and while I don't recall exactly why or what I drew these two boys for, I probably just did it because Sergals are fun to draw and so are expressions.
9) Okay so. MLP is a heckin' FUN style to draw in and I LOVE drawing ponies in that style because they're always so fun and interesting and unique. I've never watched the show and am not really interested in it, but gosh dang do I LOVE the artistic side of the community that the show has. Anyways, in April I created this guy as part of another story idea I like to come up with from time to time, and kinda wish I could do more with him some day.
10) These were two couple YCHs I worked on in June but never really felt were good enough to upload. I love the ideas behind them both, and I enjoyed trying out a new style with each of them, but again, I just felt that they were both lacking... something. Maybe the anatomy was a bit too off for me, and the second pose never felt dynamic enough. Ah well, each piece is a learning experience!
11) I still want to finish this one. Or maybe remake it. I made it in September of '16 and when I did my folder cleanout for '17, I kept it because I still liked it and thought I might finish it. I still haven't, but... Lerato as an older adult is something I rarely draw, and never get him commissioned as- which I should. I've mentioned his comic already, but I should also probably add that his comic has a beginning- his birth- and an end- his death. Even though he's my fursona, his story has been outlined in my mind from the beginning to the end and I see him in my mind's eye at every stage of his life, which means a lot to me. Just because I draw him at a certain age a lot, doesn't mean he doesn't exist at all other ages.
12) In August I had just recently obtained a beautiful pair of Imperial dragons on my Flight Rising account, and wanted to draw them. One of them I did end up finishing, but the other one I either forgot about or decided not to finish it for some other reason. Still, gosh darn it all if Imperials aren't absolutely beautiful dragons to draw.
And that's it! Maybe at the end of '18, I'll post all my sketches from this and next year that didn't get finished. It's kind of fun, going back to your old drawings and seeing which ones never really got finished or moved past the initial conceptual stages. There were certainly way more than just these, but these were the ones I wanted to show and/or talk about.
Anyways, that's all for now! <3
