A friend of mine recently suggested (I prefer challenged ;P) me to paint backgrounds other than landscapes. Basically, paint backgrounds with things that weren't directly created by nature. And it's true, a lot of my paintings follow the theme of character + landscape. There isn't a whole lot there that could be considered "man-made."
I decided to take him up on his suggestion/challenge and painted something man-made. It took me a while to think of something interesting, but this is what I came up with. Looking through the eyes of a traveler who is being greeted by the first soul he has seen in days. It's been forever since I read Redwall, but I do remember plenty of journeys that characters went on, and I believe that inspired this. Perhaps this is the mountain range before Salamandastron. (if I got my Redwall geography messed up, go ahead and correct me =P)
And for once, I'm happy with how the fire came out! D: Thanks to various friends for critiquing this as I painted. You know who you are. =3
Hope you guys like it! Enjoy! =D

This is just marvelous, Tem. Easily one of your best pictures.
One thing I'd suggest you do would be to improve on your mountain textures. Right now, they still look a bit sketch-marky, and could be cleaned up a little more. Other than that, there's nothing else I can point out.

You know it's quite prophetic that I would happen to skim across a painting like this because I feel like the guy who is unseen knowing all of his hard times are coming to an end and knowing everything is going to be alright either way.
I really like this piece a lot!
It was well worth the time you put into it.

This has always been an incredible favourite of mine. I know I have told you before, but every time I look at it, it brings forth such warm emotions and happy memories. The background is just right, the moon and the clouds, the friendliness and welcoming of the character, and especially the local lighting. This is one of my "happy places" I go when I'm feeling down.
