A feather painting of a mantling red-tailed hawk I did for the NAFA 2017 Field Meet raffle. I'm not a falconer yet but that will likely change next year! I've never felt so content and at peace as when I'm out in the field with the birds. Seeing them fly in such beautiful surroundings, the excitement of watching them hunt, it makes me feel a joy I can't find elsewhere.

I cannot express just how awesome I find this work of yours. You captured so much detail of the hawk that most would overlook, such as the white feathers usually hidden underneath on the back of the head, the seeming randomness of the patterns across all the feathers, and the curvature of the tail feathers. Just brilliant!
That's absolutely magnificent.
And so are the birds. I've always been interested in their behavior and how they think - how instinct comes together with intelligence (they don't have much but they take good advantage of what they have). There's more to birds of prey than meets the eye - my father, himself a falconer, taught me that a long time ago.
You might actually enjoy Roz Gibson's Griffin Ranger series. It's written from the perspective of what amounts to sentient birds of prey, and she does the sort of job that only someone who's handled RL raptors could do.
