While working with the awesome and enthusiastic SongoftheWildBeast on DA for our RP-group-to-be: Raccoons-of-the-Rise, I was surprised to learn that there were no raccoon anatomy tutorials on DA, at least none that I could find. If you look at my favorite's list, you'll find quite a few animal anatomy tutorials in my "Tutorials" folder and I was looking forward to adding a raccoon one to my collection. Oh, well XD As you can see, I decided to take matters into my own hands!
So, here we are! My first time doing a major tutorial, though it was more of a study than anything else as I was learning, myself, during the process of creating this tutorial, typing what I learned into Google Docs as I doodled stuff for it, studying raccoon images and videos, etc.
I wanted to add a section about the raccoon nose but I think the part about reminding people that they should study and learn about animals' anatomy on their own covered a lot, maybe? Idk but I like to challenge people when I can XD
Disclaimer 1: None of the photographs used in this tutorial belong to me and I used them only for reference to help myself and others with drawing raccoons; I am not at all profiting from the photos used in this tutorial. I tried my best to make sure the photos I used were free stock but it's possible I derped with a few of them. Nevertheless, all photos shown here belong to their respective photographers.
Disclaimer 2:: I typed this tutorial out with the assumption that most people reading are nonhuman animal artists who struggle with plantigrade animals like raccoons due to being used to drawing canines or felines. I am confident there are many artists out there who don't let this cause them to give all animals digitigrade legs
Disclaimer 3:: I am not an expert and am still learning how to draw raccoons, myself, so if I missed something or made some errors, please forgive me!
Note:: My advice I wrote in this tutorial is how I personally learn how to draw animals I'm not used to drawing. If you've got your own method(s) that have proven to work for you and you don't agree with my methods, go ahead and do you!
I may definitely return to this tutorial in the future when I am wiser with raccoon anatomy. For now, though, I just wanted a full raccoon tutorial to exist on DA and I'm pretty content with how this came out ;w;
