The term "Dogs of War" is a metaphorical term used to describe soldiers, especially during war-time. The same goes for Devil-Dogs in regards to the Marines. By the looks of it, the story takes place during WW2 which was the most destructive war in human history. I never heard of this anthology myself, but I'd really like to read it now.
I really like how this ties together with the previous cover. Same camp, same perspective, but clearly much has happened. The raccoon and shirtless dog from the original are missing, the survivors are bloody and bandaged, there's bullet holes in the wooden defilade and smoke rising in the background. It tells an entire story in two pictures.
