It was a bright, warm summer afternoon, the sun filtering through the canopy, dappling the surface of the cool mountain lake and its countless lily pads. A soft breeze ruffled the fur of the two foxes as they stepped into the shore's shallow water.
"This is... just gorgeous", Arikh said, at a loss for words, amazed by sheer beauty of the scene that lay in front of him. For the first time in a long while - maybe for the first time in his entire life - he felt a sense of belonging, of inner peace.
Nerissa smiled, trailing a few steps behind him. "It's my favorite spot. I like to swim here, catch some fish..." Arikh missed the note of mischievousness that suddenly crept into the vixen's voice. "Do you like bathing?"
Arikh sensed movement behind him but didn't have time to brace for the vixen's pounce. Playfully nipping his ear, Nerissa threw him off-balance, landing on top of him among the lilypads.
