My head was warm
My skin was soaked
I called your name 'til the fever broke
When I awoke
The moon still hung
The night so black that the darkness hummed
I raised myself
My legs were weak
I prayed my mind be good to me
An awful noise
Filled the air
I heard a scream in the woods somewhere
A woman's voice!
I quickly ran
Into the trees with empty hands
A fox it was
He shook afraid
I spoke no words, no sound he made
His bone exposed
His hind was lame
I raised a stone to end his pain
What caused the wound?
How large the teeth?
I sure knew eyes were watching me
The creature lunged
I turned and ran
To save a life I didn't have
Dear, in the chase
There as I flew
Forgot all prayers of joining you
I clutched my life
And wished it kept
My dearest love I'm not done yet
How many years
I know I'll bear
I found something in the woods somewhere
In the Woods Somewhere by Hozier

Characters used: Foeslayer, Arctic, and Peacemaker
Song used: In the Woods Somewhere by Hozier
Scene description: Soon after settling into her new home in the rainforest with baby Peacemaker, Foelslayer is haunted by guilt over the death of Arctic as well as the knowledge that she holds his killer in her arms.
So yeah, I knew from the beginning I was going to do something with Foeslayer and Arctic's supposed spirit (though in this case it's really just a personification of her own emotion, not an actual ghost) but the concept jumped around a bit. Originally I went in with the intent to use Taste of Poison as the song, but as the drawing veered in a different direction I decided to change it, and the eeriness of In The Woods Somewhere really helped boost this haunting feel I was going for as I moved forward.
I feel like it would be almost inevitable for Foeslayer to feel guilt over what happened to Arctic, because if she had never taken off her earring and been captured, none of this would have happened. Now we all know that it wasn't really her fault, but when you're grieving you're often so lost to emotion that you're not able to think rationally. Plus I imagine it would be hard to forget that tiny little Peacemaker once brutally murdered the dragon she loved most. I have a hard time believing that wouldn't come back to haunt her occasionally.
