I know the feels quite well, just in a weird cycle where I go from being happy I know them beyond all hell and cycling down to feeling like crap for not doing better or whatnot. Jelly that Ripple has someone so carefree like Dew though, I feel like that's what I am to a number of people, both cos I'm there watching out for people and because one effective tactic I've used to mend people down in the dumps is to be aware of that state but play to what they like, and keep a moderate chipper attitude regardless, not directly mentioning their state (various reasons, it feels too soon, they're known to be overly proud, testing the waters on how to proceed next) but just helping them through action instead of words and demonstrations and logic.
Because sometimes someone just wants to see and feel a Dew for themselves, not be told that Dews exist or they can be one. (An issue I have with my own dad, who is utterly unequipped to handle anything that doesn't respond to hard logic xD)

What you described is literally what I often do for people feeling down. When I was younger I needed a Dew, I got something different but eventually we both turned each other into Dews.
I think Dews come about through kindness and spread, smiles breed smiles.
I'm now imagining a zombie apocalypse only it's just Dew turning everyone else into Dews and raising an army....
