Commission: Before the Hunt
The African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus, also known as the African Hunting Dog, Painted Dog, Cape Hunting Dog, or Spotted Wolf) is one of the savanna's most successful hunters - they must have a really good game plan ;)
The commissioner's name (
kintari) is hidden in one of the dog's "paint" - can you find it?
It really looks a lot better in real life. Sorry for the poor quality photograph - I'll try to replace it with a better shot as soon as I get my hands on a good camera... but who knows when that'll be :b

Wow...that's beautiful and clever all at once. I love their little game plan going on (and apparently, so do they). This is remarkably well done--it looks like a page out of National Geographic. Ha, if only they could take a shot like this...that would be crazy interesting.
I like how the hills in the background are very subtle, kind of misty, but maybe that's because of the photograph. In any case, it's a very nice effect.

Thank you so much :) The clever bits of it (the game plan and hidden name) are Kintari's idea, though ;) It really is appreciated.
I considered putting more in the background - a little group of zebra, and some trees and such, but I was afraid of giving the background a similar "blotchy" look that the dogs have, making them stand out less. So I opted for the subtle look you described. I'm glad you approved of my decision - backgrounds always scare me a little X3

While I've no doubt that a group of zebra or anything else might look very neat in the background, I think that might have turned out to be a slight distraction from the dogs up front, especially for the blotchy reason as you said. The background looks great as is--and I agree that backgrounds can be even a little scary, but you always do so well with them, so I hope you don't mind that I say you have little to worry about there :3
Thanks so much for the encouragement :) I used to avoid doing backgrounds before, when I was just a graphite artist and hadn't learned digital. I also avoided colour because I was scared of ruining a perfectly good sketch X3
"I -could- colour this sketch, and it MIGHT turn out okay........ OR, I could just do it in graphite, and I know it'll turn out fine :b"

Wonderful picture. I love the idea of it. I also love the black and white. I think it really adds some thing special to it. Though I might be a little bias because I tend to favor black/white pictures more. =P
And I found the name almost immediately. ^_^
Very nicely done Jocarra.

Man I love this piece, and can you imagine actually stumbling upon a group of wild dogs doing such.
Ade: Ok, Abayomi! You come in from over here and flank Fadiya and Gasira while Damu comes from the left. I Ade, will come from the front and scare the prey towards you guys. You got it? *serious face*
Abayomi: *nods*
Fadiya: *nods*
Gasira: *nods*
Damu: So, what were basically doing here is a one dog blitz. Ade, that will funnel the prey towards the four of us from the backside to tackle the offensive push by the prey to get away thus giving us a supreme victory on the battle field today *evil grin* African wild dogs 1, prey 0 Mwaaahahahahahaha.... >:]
Ade: O_o! ..... >:U *beats Damu*
