Do you currently still own the item(s) you're reviewing?
Yep.
Did the maker meet your deadline?
The initial deadline were missed, and it was like pulling teeth to get the suit after that.
Did you tell the maker about any issues you had?
Yes, I did. Some were fixed, others were not.
How many hours have you worn/used the item(s) you're reviewing?
Give your best estimate.
couple of hours at most.
HEAD
The following questions ask you to explain how satisfied you are with each feature of the head of the costume. If you are reviewing only a set of ears, your answers would also go in this section.Wear Satisfaction
Please describe how it is to wear this piece of your costume.
Upon arrival it was not wearable. The elastic to hold the head had not been measured. It was very loose and it fell around the neck.
It is not lined, as it is made on a resin mask.
Ventilation was only through the mouth, which was a difficulty within itself, since the mask didn't fit right. It was either be able to see, or be able to breath.
Vision was awful upon arrival. Painted material and the eye holes were incredibly small. This was "fixed" later on, but it wasn't that much better.
**A side note here**
DVC has given me permission to add them to this review.
When we went to a convention with the head, they replaced the bad eye holes beautifully, drilled holes in the nose and installed a fan for much MUCH better ventilation. I was extremely satisfied with what they did to fix the head.
Appearance Satisfaction
Please describe how satisfied you are with how your costume piece looks from the outside.
The right ear is shaved more than the left. This was brought up to the maker and there was an attempted fix, but it's still uneven. However, unless you look closely, you prolly wouldn't notice. Besides that symmetry is fine. The scar is made out of epoxy. It doesn't look that great.
Shaving is okay.
Fur feels fine.
I originally paid for a snarling/angry expression and they forgot to make it that way. It was either wait even longer for the head so they could fix it or get a tail as compensation. I had already been waiting awhile, so I took the tail offer. The eyes at least have an angry look.
Yes it matches the concept art.
Special Attachments and Features
Please describe how satisfied you are with any extra features your head has.

TAILS
The following questions ask you to explain how satisfied you are with each feature of the tail(s) of the costume.Wear Satisfaction
Please describe how it is to wear these pieces of your costume.
Tail fits fine.
Quality is fine, but those belt loops sure are not. They are INCREDIBLY small, as i can barely fit 2 fingers into the loops. He has to use a thin ladies belt to even attempt to wear it.

Appearance Satisfaction
Please describe how satisfied you are with how your costume pieces look from the outside.
It's a plain black tail. Fur feels fine.
OVERALL VISUAL SATISFACTION
The following questions ask how satisfied you are with the overall visual aspects associated with the costume. How satisfied are you with how closely the suit matches the concept art?
If there was no concept art, please state N/A
It matches the concept art.
How satisfied are you with how well everything fits together and matches up?
Do you markings match up at the seams? Are the colors consistent?
Markings are where they are supposed to be.
MAKER INTERACTION AND COMMISSION PROCESS
The following questions ask how satisfied you are with all the aspects of communication between you and the maker. How satisfied are you with how easy it was to initially contact the maker for a quote?
Initial contact was a breeze, but it went downhill from there.
How satisfied are you with the response time from the maker?
How long did it take them to respond?
Not satisfied at all. Between multiple changes of email and how to contact, it was difficult to get any kind of reply at all.
How satisfied are you with how the deadline was met for completion of your project?
Were any deadlines missed or was it done early?
Deadlines were missed. The head was supposed to be completed by June 28th 2016. They stated they would start in April 2016. I did not get any updates, though I asked several times.
https://imgur.com/KlGpx7j
They were posting premades and other things during this time as well. I got my first actual picture of the head on August 23rd. They claimed they had sent pics before but nothing had ever showed up. It was at this time we talked about the expression being wrong and also that the head did not have the grey muzzle. They claimed lighting was an issue, but I'm not sure I really believe that.
https://imgur.com/IZMWTOA
From there it was another batch of unanswered emails to get an update until October 29th. When I finally stopped asking nicely, it was then I got an update. They claimed they were sending pictures, but I was never getting anything, and offered to send them over DM on Twitter, which I received pretty quickly.
I sent them shipping money for the Head and Tail on the same day. They said the package would be out first thing Monday. From there I got no updates or tracking info until December 1st 2016.
https://imgur.com/H7aTnYR
It all goes further downhill from there, as I feel I was lied to about shipping. For the entire month of Dec and part of Jan. the shipping does not update, stating that it's still waiting for the item to be brought in for shipping. They claimed it could possibly be lost and that just leaves me feeling worse.

And then suddenly, on Jan 9th they post an update on Twitter about getting things sent out soon, and lo and behold Jan 12th the tracking finally updates and was here 2 days later.

I was angry, but I didn't want to start throwing accusations about with the head and my money on the line. I just wanted the damn thing to finally arrive.
How satisfied are you with the overall quality of your project?
Unsatisfied. When the head finally arrived, it was in a tiny box with no cushion or padding.
https://imgur.com/FOTybJc (I put it in the box for this picture.)
It was unwearable upon arrival, with tiny chips off the inside of the mask, the elastic unmeasured and appearing cut/ripped in one spot, and the mesh in the eye covered in glue and also ripped. The tail was not sent as well. When I brought this up, they claimed they never said they'd send the tail with the head and...I'm not entirely sure why?
They said all the things wrong with it were easy fixes and then offered to send me the supplies to fix it myself. I initially was going to agree with this, as i was tired of dealing with nonsense, but after sleeping on it, I got angry. Why should I have to fix something I paid $700 for to arrive unwearable?
https://imgur.com/PkEbY5K
This was discussed and I was going to send the head back for repairs. I sent the package out on Jan 16th and they received it the 22nd.
Edits were supposedly done by the 24th, but they didn't send it back out to me until the 30th.
They sent it back in the same box it first came in with the tail squished in underneath it.
https://imgur.com/AUv324f This was the final contact I had with the maker. They never replied.
How satisfied are you with the overall customer service and professionalism of the maker?
Unsatisfied. I feel I was drug around in a circle and given a ton of excuses and also lied to.
I felt I had to be less than nice to get any kind of reply at times.
Describe your experience. What were the pros and cons of working with this maker? And any final comments?
Pros:
Initially nice to talk to
Cons:
Hard to get a hold of.
Lots of excuses.
Missed deadlines.
Album of screenshots and dealings.

It's been almost a yr since I received the head/tail from the maker. Maybe things have changed, maybe not. All I know is that it was a terrible experience and I will definitely research any future fursuit makers thoroughly before trying to do business with them.

This review is frightening. First off, when a tracking number is bought online, it definitely shows as "pre-shipment info sent to USPS" until they have the package in hand, then it updates to having possession of the package. You were blatantly lied to about them shipping your head. They bought the tracking and then...just let it sit.
Secondly, a resin head just thrown in a just-barely-big-enough, flimsy cardboard box with no padding...? You're lucky the entire thing isn't completely shattered. I sure hope that the box was marked fragile but the way this review has been, I don't think they paid extra for safe handling.
$700 is a reasonably lower price for a fully finished resin head but not for something completely unwearable. There's no possible way that any sort of interior flaws could have been caused by USPS unless they literally opened the box, tampered with the product, then taped it back up again.
I'm actually surprised that they have a review like this; after being in the business for 6 years as they claim, it's a bit startling to have such quality issues and no feedback whatsoever? I find it kind of hard to believe that they've gotten no complaints; even I know exactly where I've failed in quality in past projects.
The screenshots make everything extra believable and extra bad. The muzzle fur is 100% black in those first photos; I'm really unsure why the maker actually lied to you about that one. Admitting and fixing a mistake is a sign of integrity; I wouldn't even be upset if they had just owned up to it. Just based on the shading, it looks like they airbrushed over the black fur with grey paint instead of replacing the fur.
I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I know someone who received a suit from this same maker, it was absolutely horrible but said person was way too immature (young) and excited to have their first suit to notice the flaws. I saw maaaaaaany. The suit didn't even properly fit them. It was dirty and even had holes in it... It was supposed to be new but looked like it was used for YEARS. The fur was shaved so short you can almost see the mesh/base or whatever underneath and it was very uneven. I could go on but... yeah.
I'm going to have to argue this comment as I would never, ever send out a dirty and or used head with holes in it. Nor would I lie about it being new.
Sorry but this sounds a bit exaggerated. And it may be unprofessional to respond to this but I gotta stand my ground on this.
As far as shipping with no padding I always stuff my boxes with news paper or packing peanuts. I'd never toss just a head in a box like that. If I did on this particular head for some reason I don't remember it but...I am very careful with my shipments. If I did then it was a huge error on my part and I couldnt apologize enough.
I will reply to some other things here as well, my apologies for the long comment:
Ive definitely made tons of mistakes in the past, and continue to make some here and there, but the quality of my products has greatly improved. I'm still learning how to improve the quality of my things, and it's a never ending learning process! I always have and still do have communication issues and that's something I continue to try and work on. The only reason I got new a new email is so I have a more reliable email to use, hotmail was horrible for my yahoo using clients and sending attachments. There was no shady or bad reasoning behind that. I get tons of positive feedback from people and I will have to try to urge them to review my things more often so not only the bad things from the past are up here.
And miss Sarahcat's partner's suit was a suit made quite a while back, and I did actually post it on instagram and such. I have no reasoning for not posting some stuff, I post some in some place and some not. I actually requested photos from the suit owner which I got, but never really posted a collage because the photos because I didn't feel they represented the suit well. Fixes were offered for that but I just got, and continue to get really bad attitudes from Sarah and contact was pretty much dropped as far as I remember. It was one of my first handfuls of fullsuits and definitely wasn't perfect but I don't deserve to be shamed years later for it.
I did not mean for my premades to seem better than commissioned work though? I spend way less time on them, and nowadays my partner makes them so I spend all of my time on commissions. I've made a post about it on twitter which is where I make my usual updates now, about how I recognize I've made huge mistakes earlier on in my business and am still paying for it. I know I have long wait times and am working on that and my communication, but once I am finished with my queue I will be switching to premades only and have changed my refund policy as well. I am doing the best I can, but I think it's for the best that I switch to premade only later on when my queue is done. I stopped taking commissions over a year ago other than occasional slots to fill smaller item queues (usually heads, maybe a partial occasionally), so premades are my only income and essential to paying for my bills. It would be irresponsible of me to continuously take on commissions so I do t feel I should be criticized for putting those out a couple times a month. They are usually priced cheap, and like I said, I commit all my work time to commissions now.
Tl;dr - I've messed up bad in the past, and am continuously working to improve myself and my work. I'm by no means perfect, nobody is, every maker has their duds and there's no excuse for them - and I will encourage the people who have gotten things from me to review me more so not just the negative things are here. I genuinely feel bad for any sub par products I've put out in the past and welcome anybody who has gotten something they would consider a disaster from me to get in touch and I will be glad to redeem myself with a brand new version of my current, much much better quality for no cost to them.

I'm blocked by them so I'm responding to you.
The head isn't even a year old so if there is improvement, it must be fairly recent... But then the person down below also got a fursuit from them recently (I'm assuming a month ago since they mentioned Halloween as a deadline?) and had similar results.
I wasn't involved with the transaction with my ex's suit, why she's attacking me is beyond me. The transaction happened years ago, I was asking about the progress of the suit because she wouldn't reply to emails from her client. Work things out with your customer and don't deter from doing what you were paid to do because of someone else not involved, if anything that should motivate you to want to complete the order and do a great job on it to impress them, maybe they'll commission you again!
Learn from your mistakes. If this has happened more than a few times, it's not bad clients, it's bad business practices.

I can't defend anything that happened with this specific purchase, but I can comment on some other things.
> Secondly, a resin head just thrown in a just-barely-big-enough, flimsy cardboard box with no padding...?
I've bought 4 resin heads that were shipped in small boxes with little to no padding (2 of them from Faris, in fact) and I've never had any problems with damage done in transit. So I might just be lucky but I feel like a lot of people's shipping concerns regarding padding are a bit overblown.
> I'm actually surprised that they have a review like this; after being in the business for 6 years as they claim, it's a bit startling to have such quality issues and no feedback whatsoever?
Faris gets lots of feedback and also a lot of bad customers (at least her side of the story makes them look bad anyway). She's been pretty vocal about it on Twitter for all the time I've followed her there (about 2 years?) and recently made a pretty long twitter message saying that she knows she's done bad things/quality and almost everything a customer has ever said about her is legit and she's not disputing that. So, she's certainly not in a vacuum, at least.
I've dealt with Faris on 3 separate occasions that I can remember offhand. 2 premades and 1 commission for digi legs. On all occasions, the situation never went perfectly, but she was far and away the best at her communication - delivery estimates, work estimates, helping me fix issues, refunds, etc. Far better than every other maker I've ever worked with.
But it's quite clear that this particular commission is nothing like the experiences I've had with her, and that makes me very sad. That head was all black, so she lied about the grey, and the shipping is just... I don't know. She ships from Buffalo, NY, and December 2016 was an absolutely TERRIBLE winter there, so while it's POSSIBLE USPS didn't scan it when she says she sent it, all the evidence really points to her lying about that too. And it's really just... Kind of sad. =(

Yeah I mean I'm definitely not trying to imply that every single experience is like this one; she has been doing this for quite a long time.
I think the biggest thing I'm having issues wrapping my mind around though is just the lying. It's so obvious and there's really no other way I can figure out how to interpret it.
I wish Faris would just take some pride in her work (i.e. trying to explain away the ripped mesh) and have a little bit more faith in/respect for her clients (i.e. implying that Felis just couldn't see where the grey was on the muzzle, then quickly airbrushing it and acting like it was always that way)
I'm sorry about the really long comments about this, I'm just dumbfounded that this went as awry as it did.

Not really. I've purchased over 200 resin bases before and have received some damaged in the mail. The ones that get damaged are damaged because there's no bubble wrap, foam, plastic bags or any sort of protection to keep them from such. If you're paying $100+ for a product I would hope you would expect to have it in some sort of protection, even newspaper is better than nothing. It's not "overblown," especially if the artist doesn't want the hassle of refunding you or having to make a new product to replace the damaged one, it's easily preventable.

And Faris has done this in the past before. She doesn't learn from her mistakes. I've seen more negative reviews than positive ones because of that. I feel like she's escaped to Twitter because of all of the comments that were on her profile or journals asking for updates, even changing her email because of email problems (probably on her behalf, can't answer an email if you don't receive one from the maker).
Ex boyfriend commissioned her and won a raffle of hers years ago. Took him over a year to receive the suit after he paid in full; it's not in her gallery for a reason, thing was falling apart when he took it out of the box and was beyond repairable after 1 wear. I begged him to speak out about it (and I hope he reads this so he does) but I think he's too scared of getting backlash from her. I don't blame him.
And, as far as I know, there was no contact about the raffle piece. He won and got nothing. :)

> Not really. I've purchased over 200 resin bases before and have received some damaged in the mail.
That's fair. I'd think it's be less common with fursuit heads though since when the fursuit head is made, fur surrounds the resin base and that seems like it would work as padding. But "If you're paying $100+ for a product I would hope you would expect to have it in some sort of protection" is definitely true and yeah I guess that's the clincher. Even if it's unnecessary, you should still be getting the padding considering the price of the object.

Well that is disappointing. =[
I wish more people would say something, then. =[
I've always looked at her gallery and noted that her commissions really seem to be way below the quality of her premades. At least her heads. I was never sure why that was but that's, like, 100% of the reason I only bought her premade heads.
I don't know if my digi legs (which I commissioned) are an outlier or what, but those are awesome and still my fave. I reviewed them here actually. But, yeah, they had their own set of problems I had to work with Faris to fix.
And oh yeah, the email changing, being behind on posting pictures pretty much all the time, I've seen it on her FA and it is worrisome. I'm not sure what's going on there and I try not to think about it. There's another review on here I remember reading where someone had said something like "I would not commission her, but her pre-mades are nice." And I would... have to agree there.
But that's still 100% NOT an excuse for what happened here.
Everything Felis went through was 100% unacceptable and that's all on faris. =/
