2007 was the earliest and I believe the first time I ever drew Krystal of Star Fox Adventures' fame. At the time I barely was scratching the surface of what digital painting could do ( still had to draw on paper and later scan the image and used a mouse to do the colors ) That original drawing holds special significance to me because it spurred my resolve to dedicate my efforts to become better as an artist after a very long dry spell of uncertainty and doubt.
Getting back to that old image and updating it was a immensely rewarding experience.

Less sexualization. Character details are way off, but there's more respect for the character in the original piece than this new one.
You can't say that made her less sexualized when she's already wearing a loincloth in the first place. Her wearing that outfit was an official, canonical look for her and Nintendo's renders weren't hiding her cleavage either. She was meant to be very easy on the eyes.

I can't speak on SciFiCat's behalf on why they opted for those proportions but I see it as catering to the audience and artistic freedom. I believe part of the reason SFC draws a lot of voluptuous characters because the followers and commissioners (myself included) really like that plus that may be an influence on SFC. SFC is also well within their right to change Krystal's appearance.
Regardless, I do see where you're coming from. Not quite the same matter but I roll my eyes at females wearing revealing outfits/bikini armor in serious/battle settings. I don't think SFC would be against the idea of having varied body types in future work (I'll tip my hat in for shortstacks here :y ).
By the way, I skimmed SFC's gallery and noticed this Krystal piece where she looks a bit more slim (though still on the busty side): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14516631/
And this too: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17536458/

The second one is tolerable but still falls way short of the tasteful execution of Starfox Adventures. Realize that her outfit isn't a bikini or intentionally awkwardly revealing, but rather a tribal outfit befitting the nature of the planet. And there's a lot of tribal type outfits that, while sexy, are also quite fashionable. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=belly+dancing+outfit among others. :P (Ez short link, don't feel I'm being patronizing, haha) I think the outfit really fits Krystal, gives some mystery to her past, and works a hell of a lot better with who she is than the steaming pile of spandex they stuck her in subsequently. That's far more skanky than the tribal outfit, when she could have had an outfit on par with Fox and the team's.
In the end, I simply disagree with that type of treatment of any character, Krystal or otherwise. Sticking to a creation's natural proportions and then leading them to in-world situations that would be enjoyable to view as an outsider, that's more fun to me than blatant porn and character-destroying fantasy. I mean, there' Rouge for that type of T&A haha, at least that's on-character. But all of this really circles back towards the exploitation of pop culture for popularity. Fanart should be respectful (even when pornographic) and then the original content an artist draws can be whatever they want. I roll my eyes at the extreme levels of oversexualization present in the 'furry' fandom, but at least if it's original characters, it's not trivializing any source mediums. (I can still at least give him some respect for making an effort on the markings, that's a lot more than many who draw Krystal tend to do...)

Regarding the way I drew Krystal now in comparison to the way I drew her in the past: Yes there has been an evident change in the proportions and voluptuousness of the way I drew her as it is an evolution both in the way I have grown to love drawing sexy female character as much as an influence derived from customers and viewers. As to whether or not that somehow makes my rendering "disrespectful" towards the character it up to personal opinion and taste.
If a beautiful, fully developed female character at her full splendor by its mere representation can be contrived as sexualized and therefore defaulted as "disrespectful" is a position I'll never understand. Is this representation of Krystal body off-model? yes absolutely and intentionally so because that is what I wanted to draw; a absolutely gorgeous, mature, fully adult and sensual version of Krystal, a character I love to draw and this doesn't make me disrespect her character in the least, quite the contrary. Do you really believe I'll put this much effort and passion into an illustration out of disrespect?
I really cannot control what other people feel about my work, nor do I wish to control their reaction towards it. If you like it great, if not then by all means you are free not to like it. In the end when it comes to fanart I draw out of my own volition I will exercise my artistic freedom to draw characters in a way that appeal to me and hopefully it is of other people's liking as well, I'm fortunate enough that that is the case. If there is anything that I've learnt over the years while doing this is that fanart allows for a staggering range of freedom and flexibility when it comes to drawing character in a variety of ways that deviate from the original yet are perfectly recognizable and viable in their own ways. Moreover, it is this amazing variety of styles and interpretations that have made fan art communities thrives because there is not enforced "canonical" look to stick by when drawing fan art.
Thank you for noticing that I took the time to render her markings in an accurate matter, even if in general you disagree with the overall rendering of her. That is a gesture on your behalf I can appreciate.
