12 Days of Christmas
Heart's still beating. In speaking of hearts, pumping up work again starting with practice on a species I never worked with before and after the struggle, decided to come back home to a familiar face. The song I was listening to is the title I decided to use.
Um... someone told me she looked like a cat as I was doodling... what do you think?

0.0 ... I just noticed where the cat is. The muzzle is too short and small. I asked the commentator if it was the nose and they said yeah so I fixed it. Wow... it's been too long since I've drawn her. I thought that was how I always drawn her. Well, that's what doodles are for.
Sorry I BRUINed the shot by not outlining. It wasn't originally intended to be uploaded. I did that at work during the students' lunch time.
I hope I can be back. My featured submission is the world longest commercial break.

I guess to the untrained eye, it is easy to mistaken. Or maybe because she's not all there as far as the ears and other defining creatures. I noticed how some artists of the furry kind tend to do the same thing with some species to where the only way to tell is by the tail or markings. I try to make each one unique. If I had Alissa standing next to Keara and/or Kelly, I think it would have been more clear. Alissa's facial markings do kind of look similar to Kelly, to the untrained eye. Also, cats are usually drawn with that patch of fur around the muzzle in a diamond shape. Now I want to draw her full body and clearer.
One of my concerns is I hope she looks inviting and not scary lol

LoL Yeah, I have seen that a lot too within this community. Often I find myself drawing a species looking similar to another and I correct it to the best of my ability. However for you, you don't seem to draw species looking similar or using a "cookie-cutter" design among everybody. But that's all in perception from each individual and I can only speak for myself.
Okay first, I meant to say features not creatures.
THANK YOUUUUUU!! Thanks for noticing that. Same with the shots I use. Trying to use more dynamic angles. Ah, I get the last part. About that, I became aware of how I draw when I thought of how I draw simple things that everyone seems to use the same symbol for but not use what they see. Example: Drawing an eye. I usually see people do some form of a lemon shape with the circular eye, give or take minor added details. I always drew what I saw and tried to make it look as real or close to the source as possible. My sister drew better then me but she admitted during one of our competitions while drawing Rose from Street Fighter Alpha the movie that I did. the face better. I think I just focus on faces more.
Another observation is it can also be a flaw with me drawing as close to what I see because when I was little, I used to color a lot of coloring books. May brother did too and it wasn't until I noticed how I always critiqued him coloring something out of it's original color that I saw I may box myself in with reality. Would explain why my characters don't look so interesting as those who use bazaar colors, mixtures and patterns.

I quite share that same theory when it comes to (anthro) character colors too. Like I don't create blue or pink cheetahs- unnatural fur colors to be precise unless they are "special markings" and even those would have to have some explanation as to why in my books. Other than that, I am not into designing my characters having rainbow colors like a neon green canine for example. It just isn't my style at all.
I also like drawing faces more or bust images because the way I see it, drawing faces is different than drawing the body. You get to show their expression, personality, responsiveness, and what not. It speaks a lot in volumes when drawn right. That and I like to go a bit in depth with face details on characters being cartoony yet, a tad realistic.

Yeah, and then I hopelessly think I can just hit the backwards button and it will be there. It works for some things. But why doesn't that crap ever happen when I just have a short message? I suddenly recall back in the day of dial-up, I'd get caught when the connection was lost and I'd have to wait almost an hour to get back to where I was because of how slow the process was and because our computer had a virus and was outdated and slower than anything.
Well, you've said Border Collie in the past, but I've encountered a few live Blue Heuler/ Australian Shepherd mixes that had a striking resemblance to Miss Kelly.
Don't worry about my fox remarks, as I said I tend to have vulpins vaulting through my visions, and besides, a refined older mare may still be a cougar, a disagreeable kitty a B!tch, so let it stand that this Black Bear is a Fox.

I've seen a couple real Border Collies that shared likeness as well. I'd like to see that mix though.
But I already seen the second doodle I did online and she looks foxish. Unfortunately, I was told of a fox character with the same colors as Alissa. The fan of that fox character almost mistaken Alissa for her. Going to fix the face.

Rebecca was and is my fav female fur character from the old Disney Cartoons. She was the first inspiration for Alissa. I may have strayed away from it. I feel I subconsciously used a close likeness when Alissa was first created. I mean the clothes she wore and fur color and pattern. Actually, Alissa's first look was based strictly off of a real bear which means she was bulkier and rounder (not curvy, just rounder) but I think back then, she had the face of a teddy bear. She took on a more Rebecca appearance when I added a toony style to my characters.
I actually did widen the muzzle and nose compared to how I used to draw her. I think it needs to be longer and thicker? Her ears weren't in the shot (unless you mean the second one). There is a lot to pay attention to. I have to make sure the head is wide enough and eyes spaced correctly, which I failed at in the last doodle. I focused too much on over exaggerating her expression that I didn't keep in mind her dimensions. Oh next time.

Been awhile since I did this. Tempted to go back to the original and change a number of things, but the important part is the ears
