My favorite version of this story is the one where Mr. Fox fakes his own death to test his wife's faithfulness; Mrs. Fox proceeded to turn down other subsequent fox suiters, each with one tail more than the last, until another nine-tailed fox came to her and she accepted him. However, as her wedding was proceeding, Mrs. Fox's husband reveals himself and beats the crap out of everyone in attendance, and drives his wife out of the house.
