Cigar Review of the Week: Montecristo Classic Series Robusto
Hey guys, I'm back again and doing what I can to keep these reviews up again.
It's time that I went with a brand that I often overlook because of all the other brands to try out, but NO LONGER. It's time to tackle a well known name. Montecristo. We're starting off with a classic.
Montecristo Classic Series Robusto:
Wrapper: Connecticut
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic
Pre-Light/Construction:
From the first glance, the box gives off that nostalgic look. The sticks, all in a row nice a situated like a gentleman in a well pressed suit. After taking the stick out of the wrapper, it gave off a massive note of cedar and pepper. The wrapper was nice and firm to the touch with a bit of age on it. Seems and Veins were slightly present. The bands gave it a genuine look to say "We still keep it old school." Let's light it up!
The Burn Part 1:
The first few puffs were very calm and cedary. A good little start out as soon the cedar was met with a tiny bit of white pepper notes. The draw was nice a smooth. A bit snug at first, but it soon loosens out. With more of the outdoor taste coming in it was about that time for a sweet note to make it's entrance. As of yet, nothing until the last of the 1st third of the stick. A bit of medium roast coffee notes came at the end from what my pallet could tell.
The Burn Part 2:
The draw is just right and the coffee notes begin to compliment and blend in with the cedar and white pepper notes. When you think about it, it's a morning with a kick when you think about it. A bit of earth notes blended in a bit with the cedar giving it a more natural tone. The cigar itself was getting to the point of a spongey grip like a common short filler. Maybe I was hot boxing it too much, so I set it down for a couple of minutes while drawing on my tablet. Once I picked it up again, the notes became more rich in texture. The white pepper notes however mellowed a little bit where the retro hale was the only presents in them. As the 2nd 3rd nears it's end, that roasty note comes into play and gives it more of a home bound good flavor.
The Burn Final:
The end was coming and not much has changed at this point except the Cedar notes becoming fully earthy.
With the last puff coming up, the final note to finish at the end was pepper and coffee in a tie.
Verdict:
Simple, Classy, and a nice a calm smoke for any occasion. My recommendation is grab about 3 or 4 of these guys and save it for the morning right when you wake up. Keep it classy guys.
