Sheltered (Cont)
A Thursday Prompt Story
The morning sun came slowly over the horizon; a blanket of warmth which enveloped Hunter from his hellacious night.
‘What have I gotten myself into?’, he thought. ‘I could have died!’
His own self-chastisement and ridicule over his decision to live alone, with nothing but the clothes on his back and what he could make with his own hands using natural materials which surrounded him, was nothing compared to what someone seeing him in this predicament would think.
In their own minds he would be much safer and better suited to live his life sitting in a different kind of shelter. One unlike his own, with well insulated walls for warmth and extra soft protective walls, floor and ceiling.
Nothing would happen here, nothing to cause bodily harm. A place where he could sufficiently be alone, dry and safe; without any worry. A vacuum like room where the stimulation of sound was non-existent.
His foolishness and irrational motives would rightfully put him here, where he belonged and could fairly call a truer ‘home’.
That was if he could involve himself in the realm of man. Instead he was here alone in the woods and relying on the sun to dry his damp fur and bring sensation back to his extremities. It was the dawn of a new day where he could now begin his solitary life.
He was many, many miles away from the nearest institution. Was this place he now resided, not so dissimilar? He was alone, but as he began to work on a more suitable shelter to protect him from the elements; he began to notice this place was full of life and sound. He was not confined to a single, small room with nothing in it.
He was in a large world filled with things with which he could occupy himself. A place full of adventure and excitement. Last night was a testament to his strength, but with the sun shining and that heavy atmosphere gone, he soon realized that he was in heaven as the beauty of the natural world pervaded his senses once more.
He was not crazy, he was alive and strong! He was long at last free!
My submission for this week's Thursday Prompt. The keyword for this weeks prompt was "Vacuum" with one caveat/challenge that the story's word count (not including the title or subtitle) had to be exactly 365 words. According to MS Word, the word count of the body of my story is exactly 365.
Also wanted to post a follow up to last week's prompt: Feeling, so this accomplishes a few things :)
Hope you guys enjoy!

Thanks V :) Yeah freedom is taken to the extreme in this case, to have no social dependence and to live independently. And its inspiration is taken by Richard 'Dick' Proenneke who started to live alone in Alaska at age 50 for 32 years until finally moving back to California at age 82.
Hunter has always been a loner, and his wife knows this and understands what and why he's doing it, though she really doesn't like it. This story is a quick snapshot of my upcoming story project/novel that I am currently working on. Everything will come together and make sense :) Needless to say he does leave her behind for a little while, but they do miss one another and eventually they...come back home together

Well I'm often skeptical of tv series like this and Survivor man (Les Stroud) and others, for the most part Bear Grylls is not completely alone. He has a camera crew, probably his producer and all kinds of people there with him. I wouldn't doubt if he had a medic on his adventures as well! No doubt he does go to these remote locations, but I don't believe he's not filming himself and doing everything solo. I often wonder if most of it is fake lol but that's just me
I don't discredit his skills or his woodsman knowledge, but I just don't think he's out there alone for days and days simply surviving. The documentary I read on Richard Proenneke was legit, he was alone and he filmed all his own stuff and survived on his own for 32 years in the Alaskan wilderness. His site and cabin still stands for those who wish to visit it.

Yeah I do wonder most about Bear Grylls, whilst knowledgeable there's no way he's out there alone xD Whilst I haven't watched much about survivalists living out there in the world like cavemen almost, I do watch nature documentaries :P Like how David Attenborough still is able to film Blue Planet! Holy crap. I used to be huge into watching Nature documentaries, thanks to Steve Irwin <3 I still miss him.
Holy shit wow xD that's pretty epic that someone is able to do that in this day and age. I reply too heavily on my technology like my phone and such these days haha

Very true, Steve Irwin was awesome it was a real tragedy was happened. He was entertaining and informative, a great enthusiast for all ages! I enjoy watching documentaries like that, and seeing different parts of the world. But for the moment I’m stuck in the states, without the time and monetary capitol to see it all for myself XD maybe some day
Haha ikr, at least Mr. Proenneke did it during a time when internet wasn’t quite as big yet (was alone in the wilderness from 1968-late 1999) it was easier, but now, I don’t see anyone doing it as I agree 100% we rely too much on the comforts of home and technology lol kind of like my story, you see people who desire to venture alone and live in the wilderness and wonder about their mental health lol!! (Are they crazy!?)

Oh it really was >< I was so upset when he passed away cuz I loved watching his stuff so much :c ;.; as a kid he was like my hero :c and David Attenborough of course! xD I've been to a few countries but mostly at the hotel honestly except for a few places P:
Ooooh see so he didn't have much of the technology at the time either P: now it's like how can we exist without the internet or any kind of technology anymore? xD I know I can't haha

oh yes, I liked him and that one show Zobomafoo as a kid. I actually wrote a letter to the guys at Zobomafoo and got a response with their signature it was really cool!
haha yup, I probably could for about a week at most, but then I'd be ready to come home lol I'd miss my family, friends and FA too much lol

yeah that's the thing is keeping yourself occupied, working on a shelter, hunting, fishing, foraging, whatever you gotta do. Gotta stay proactive or else your mind will start to wander and your morale drops.
I'd definitely could do it if I had my iphone with me and be able to play on the phone or check the internet, stay in touch with family, etc. lol

God yeah boredom is a heck of a killer. I've found plenty of moments where I'm bored and alone for days at a time and find my mind wondering in bad areas >< that was before I had a job mind you :P
I probably wouldn't xD I don't like trying it myself, though I like watching about it haha me personally I'm like nope I like being in a house and warm y a computer xD my ideal environment haha
