Cigar Review of the Week: Montecristo 1999 Platinum Robusto
Hey guys, it's that time again for another one. Going with probably one of my favorite blends
of this brand. We're going Platinum!
Montecristo 1999 Platinum Robusto:
Wrapper: Sumatran
Binder: Mexican
Filler: Peruvian, Nicaraguan, and Dominican
Pre-Light/Construction:
From the Tubos in the box, these were the type of cigars you would expect from a concealed space to age properly and with some cedar wrapped in the lining of the tube. The wrapper itself was nice and clean, but COVERED in plume from all that age. Truly a sight to see for any cigar lovers. The plume indicated that here was a shit load of age. Regardless it shined like nothing I've seen before. The scent was very strong in cedar and pepper. Seems and Veins were barely visible. The bands indicating the platinum outlook give it more of a look that a bunch of rich pricks can smoke, but as a commoner, I got one. Let's light it up!
The Burn Part 1:
From the first few puffs. there was a fluent amount of cedar and bread notes giving it a thick and hearty texture.
The draw was nice and smooth. The retro hale had some pepper notes. Not too strong, but made a presents saying there is some kick coming. This was actually a nice little start to help ease my nerves. It was then I was studying for a Serv Safe test at work and I was really stressed out at that point. Spoiler Alert, I passed that day, but back to the review. The last draw for the first 3rd ended with a somewhat a sweet note to belnd in with the cedar.
The Burn Part 2:
IT was at this point I wish I was having a cup of coffee and it was a nice dewy morning at a cafe in New Orleans at the Cafe Du Monde. The stick at this point was putting me into a relaxed feeling. The sweet cedar notes have pretty much made the forefront in the lead. The bread notes have dwindled down a bit but still made it taste breakfast. The pepper built up a little bit and a heavy notes came afterwords. Mainly oak. Heavy Oak, thus ending the 2nd third.
The Burn Final:
Not much has changed at this point. Still in a blissful state to the very end. With the cold draw, I was relaxed and had confidence in my test I was about to take. Like I said before, I passed.
Verdict:
With alot that Montecristo has come out with, I still stand by my position in saying this is still my favorite of the line. It may look simple from the eye, but it makes up for a blissful smoke and puts you in a relaxed state. My suggestion is to get a box of these and let a good chunk of them age a little longer. They will be worth it.
