I am posting this because I am so very happy with how it came out. Its the collar for a horse that is part of a larger piece, but I felt the collar deserved its own submission.
I created it using a very labor intensive method called wax build up where you use a wire, a fire source (candle in my case) and a (few) chunk(s) of wax to create a 3D version of a design. Its basically like writing with an old time quill pen but instead of a bird feather you have your wire mounted on a bamboo scewer, another step since you have to heat your wire, and the wax as ink. I did mind on a transparency placed over a drawing of the design. I then cast the piece in copper and soldered it onto a steel backing. The stone at the center in Onyx.
I included the original wax build up, along with pictures of just the collar and the collar in its final place on the horse (which is not finished, as you will note, since it lacks reins and eyes)
