Worst of all I am planning on doing one for each character. This is not done in the style of the comic, thank God.
I will also try them in umber/orange and black background. Get a more scratched authenticate feel to it like a dish or pottery desgin.

That is unique for you and way different from your usual fair... but yet I like the thick styled simplified cartoony character design. Will be interesting to see how each character will look done up like that. Where did you find the design for the circle pattern?
I made it from a brush, and the brush from a key. I turned the key into a brush and added the boarders above and beneath it, then I made it into a banner at about 90%-88%, then I distorted, polarized coordinates. I had to patch it, but you cannot tell I did without looking at my original 600 dpi 4800 pixel one.
The original key design is off a site and a photoreference. I can share those and show you how I made the brush.

If it didn't work I can always copy a section rotate and paste it over erasing the original part underneath. You just have to position it right before you polarize the coordinates and then see where the ends will meet. I also had to redo the brush and make it stretched or fatter to get the circle thicker.
