I think it is definitely 1930s Spontoon Island.
That is a very charming exchange between the two women. I also enjoy the very painterly coloring style.

haha.. yeah, those are a little "scandalous" for their day! i was going to make the yellow swim suit a one piece... but i liked the hare's tummy too much! :3

Tummys are always too tempting not to show. There were two-piece bathing suits, with large tops, but they were mostly stage conventions, for movies & burlesque, when people wanted to imagine how deliciously extreme beachwear could be. Even in the mid-30s, I get the feeling that a 2-piece suit was almost like a thong now. More imagined than seen. But Spontoon Island is imaginary, too, and certainly not Main Street 30s America.

And one could always dress 'native' = sarong or loincloth....

It's true! Tummies are wonderful! Yeah, I though about the skimpiness of the top at the end of all the coloring... Maybe the furry 30's were a little more risque! ^^

Now there's a thought! I'll remember sarongs next time :D
