I figured it was good to show everyone how I draw in pen from start to finish. I also happen to have had the chance, and bothered to, scan all the pages in. Here one can see that I drew this picture, like many others, in separate pages with an increase in progress to the picture. This could even count as a tutorial by the way it is displayed and described. LOL.
On the first page I made a simple skeleton with a few rough distance lines to work with.
On the second page I traced over the last making out rough shapes to the figure. I initially was going to draw Brooklyn too. LOL.
On the third page I again traced but from the second page and not the first while fleshing out the depth and some basic details. At this time the look of Brooklyn was becoming difficult and tiresome to work out at that angle.
On the fourth page I traced from the third page while adding detailing and a different head. I also added clothing along the way with plans to clean it up later.
On the fifth page I traced from the fourth and did so carefully so as to require no additional tracing. I finished detailing and such and this one is up and ready to color on the computer after an initial cleaning on the computer and such which was also performed.
On the sixth page I simply added a digital black and white gradient background to give it some oomph while helping me know where the light is coming from. The background would likely not remain the same after coloring but still serves a purpose with some of that artistic flare and what not. LOL.
And that is how I generally do my artwork from start to finish with pen only (not counting the colored finish) with pen only and a little help of my trusty scanner and art software that is still useful after all these years (Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9). Sure I could use a pencil, but I just hate erasing all the time, and I make the lines so dark anyhow that erasing tends to be more so difficult. So dark I mind as well use a pen. LOL. ^\/^.
