He's the type of character that would say something like that to put others at ease though, especially since the one he cared about was RIGHT THERE as he died. (he probably wouldn't do that for just anyone, just someone he cares about)

Mmmmaaayyybeeee. I could kinda see it either way tbh. He did consider himself as owing a debt to Gatomon, that debt being his life, and in another scene where no one he was at all close to was around, he expressed himself as the type to always pay back his debts.
Not to mention, if he really regretted this sacrifice, would he have done it again in the Xros Wars manga?
Idk I just never really had the impression he was anything other than at peace with this. Even if it was kinda unnecessary in the first place X3
