Grilled Brussles w_Bacon Jam
A new appetizer to go with Vrghr's traditional New Year's Day pork and sauerkraut feast. You can find the recipe for the pork and sauerkraut here: ( http://www.furaffinity.net/full/15399346/ ).
Wuff wanted to add an extra "nibbly" to tide folks over while Vrghr was putting the dumplings into the 'kraut. The house smelled so good, with all the aromas from the roasting pork and black-eyed peas, that wuff was afraid folks would start gnawing on the furniture. So Vrghr gave them this instead.
Vrghr created his own bacon jam for the topping, but it turns out that wuff's recipe is nearly identical to the one posted by
BirdieBites , so Vrghr will point that that one instead. It is WELL WORTH repeating! Here's the Birdies' Bacon Jam recipe ( http://www.furaffinity.net/full/14434519/ )
The recipe for these appetizers is simplicity itself! Slice the Brussels, spritz with some olive oil, drizzle with with some GOOD balsamic, and top with the jam! Stick a cute little serving toothpick in the side and enjoy!
But the flavors work so well together, that it is worth posting this tip to encourage wuff's followers to try them out. Garlic-y, earthy Brussels with crisp, charred edges, with a drop of sweet, tart, fruity Balsamic, and sweet, rich, salty Bacon jam. Oh yeah! One bite brings it all together!
A great start for a robustly-flavored meal, but wuff would probably go with something a little lighter for a more delicate entree' like a fish dish.
Ingredients:
1 lb Brussels Sprouts
~2-3 TBS good aged Balsamic Vinegar (get the thick, sweet stuff, not the cheap salad aisle bottles)
~4-5 TBS Bacon Jam (recipe: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/14434519/ )
Good olive oil
Omnivore Salt
Directions:
Clean and slice the sprouts in half from stem to top
Spray or toss with a bit of good olive oil to coat
Grill on a hot grill until the edges are a bit charred and the sprouts softened, flipping as needed
Sprinkle lightly with Omnivore Salt
Add a drop or two of good, thick aged Balsamic vinegar to each sprout
Top with a dollop of bacon jam on each sprout
!DEVOUR while still warm!
Tip: You can make these more guest-friendly by sticking each one on a decorative toothpick.

In addition to Birdie's version of the bacon jam, linked about (and closest to the one Vrghr used for this dish), Wuff did a version of that wonderful confection a while back too! You can find Vrghr's take of this delicious stuff here: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/25930223/
Vrghr highly encourages his friends and furs to make some of this stuff up. It keeps quite well, and Dang! does it go well on everything! *big grin*

*grins* Always! That bacon jam elevates everything it goes on, whether you use Birdie's version linked above, or the original version Vrghr posted years back (here: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/25930223/ )
Wuffy did a version too. But Vrghr went with a bit simpler one for the appetizers, and it was almost the same as Birdie's. That's definitely some GOOD stuff there!
Wuffy's other take on it was here: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/21055727/
Hard to go wrong with bacon jam, no matter how you make it! *grin*
