“She has a quiet confidence that screams loud. She is humble, but strong. She is stable, but rebellious. She is giving, but not naive. She chooses her battles wisely. She will stay silent until it is time to fight...and when that time comes, fight she will...”
Prelude
"Good evening. You probably already know who I am. And if you don't- you will soon enough.
I am Whisper. And I am...a kunoichi. I have been trained by some of the best fighters and swordsmen in the world. Why? One of my many goals in life is become strong enough to handle any and all adversaries I come across. I am by no means perfect, but I try my damnest to be the best person I can be. If by some chance, I fail to complete a mission or defeat my foe: I will train harder, learn from my mistakes, come back stronger, and I WILL succeed. Failure is not an option.
So why am I here today? I have been hired to take out an unworthy being. A rat if you will..."
A smirk crossed her lips as she gazed down at him; a man in a bloodstained robe sat before her, cowering in the snow- though it was hard to tell if he was shaking from the cold, the temperature steadily dropping into the single digits, or the katana lingering above his head like a guillotine. It was 2 in the morning on a crisp, winter night. While most people were asleep, Whisper thought it was the appropriate time to exterminate pests and rodents- afterall, most lechers and lowlifes seemed to come out at night anyway. Why not get them while they are stirring?
She had just returned from a much needed vacation and had several missions and orders waiting on her. Most orders were from her regular clients with annoyances or disturbances they needed tending to- most of the jobs required little to no effort so she was in no rush to complete them. However, one particular request stood out from the rest. It was…him. Her eyes grew larger as she looked over the target’s dossier over and over again, making sure it was not a cruel joke or a different person. It was him alright! Whisper had been hunting for him for years, but he always seemed to be one step ahead of her. This time, however, he slipped up. He got arrogant with his last attack in a nearby city and stupidly told someone where his headquarters were…thinking he was safe from the watchful eyes of predators. Now, thanks to a fellow assassin’s tip, she knew exactly where to find him. Wasting no time, she rushed over to the target's location to stake out her next kill- she felt particularly excited about this mission...
"Are you Bill?" Her claw thumbed across the katana's blade as she stared him down, her voice oddly quiet; it was almost...soothing. "If so, I have a message to deliver to you." Rather than reply to her question, he tried to run off, throwing a fistful of snow in her direction to distract her.
"..."
Whisper watched him run into the night, not bothering to chase him...not yet. Running in the cold would just exert excessive energy she rather not waste until the time was right. Besides, the chase is part of the fun! Why end it so early…
Brushing the snow off her face and outfit, she walked in his direction, her pace steady and confident; he was not going to escape. Sure enough, about seventy yards away, she could see his figure huddled behind a tree. His frigid body tried to climb up the tree to escape her wrath, to no avail. He should have known better than to try and escape his fate-
Holding up her blade, it caught ablaze as she waved it in his direction, "Here, let me warm you up..." Engulfing the tree and surrounding area in fire, the man was left with no choice but to run towards Whisper’s direction to find refuge- that or die to fire and smoke inhalation. It was a lose/lose situation. As he collapsed in front of her, he looked at her, his eyes full of regret- but she knew it was not remorse for his actions, but because he had been caught and called out on it...which only made her angrier. She could not let such a man continue to live, not while she was around. She lifted his body up from the ground and held him up to face her, her lavender eyes fiercely glowing in the darkness as she held the tip of the blade up to his neck, "I want to see the fear in your eyes. Do you feel it?! That feeling of helplessness knowing your life is about to end yet you have NO control over it. How does it feel? That fear is the same fear your victims felt when you wrongly killed them and their loved ones. Remember this feeling for the rest of your short life…” her icy words lingered in the air as her breath filled the night sky.
"Shine!*"
Finishing the deed, Whisper wiped her blade off, taking in the silence of a perfect kill. One down.
However, she still felt an odd sense of emptiness. She had been waiting to kill him for SO long and avenge those he had hurt, herself included. Yet…it was not over, not yet. She still had so much work to do. And her hitlist kept growing and growing, as did her passion to take everyone on it out, no matter how long it took her to do so.
(To be continued).
*Shine: Japanese for “Die!”
It is a new year, know what that means?
Pain. Lots of pain and suffering for those on Whisper’s bad side. Woe to the poor souls that face her wrath; I do not envy them at all.
When I said Whisper was coming into the new year with a bang, I meant it! She is back, taking names, and her spirit as fiery as ever! Oh wait, that is just her sword on fire…but close enough! Okay, well Whisper is back and even MORE badass! If that is even possible.
I want to give a very special thank you to the artist behind this piece vertry. She was an absolute pleasure to work with and deserves WAY more watchers; I highly recommend you go watch her if you are not. She put a lot of thought and creativity into making this piece: from the outfit and pose, down to the background. I cannot thank her enough for this piece! And while this piece was actually commissioned last year, I thought it was the perfect way to start the new year.
...and don't worry, the Bill she assassinated is another Bill. Bill is a very common name it seems~

-reads title- "you're already dead"
-is a zombie- >8V Well!! SOMEONE is insensative about people current states of being.
-files a form of verbal and emotional harassment- :|
In all seriousness, this is an amazing piece. Beautiful shine to that sword
Was never a fan of Kill Bill though. But Kill Bill featuring Whisper? Yeah I could get behind that

*sharpens my blade when I hear you don't like Kill Bill...then slowly puts it aside* Oh, well that's okay!
Haha, all kidding aside, thank you so much- the artist was an absolute joy to work with, and you're right- the sword's shine really stands out! I love artists that are good at drawing weapons

Oh I know, I have the worse time finding artists that can draw realistic weapons and armor. And the ones that do usually charge extra due to detail, lol. So it's definitely a balance finding the right artists.
So if I stab you there will be a sequel? Cool! Wait no, sequels are never as good as the original...

If I am already dead then my life has been a lie.. *self implodes*
I mean I couldn't wait for you to upload this! Vertry did such an amazing job as always and captured Whisper so well and both you and her deserve the love and praise you get!
Also as always, I loved reading your story that you attached to this wonderful piece. You really capture and detail things so well! ^^
obligatory kill bill joke

You know it's possible to be alive but mentally and emotionally dead- I swear there was a music album cover that described the feeling perfectly, "Are you alive or just breathing...?" So yeah, it's possible you are already dead! *mind blown*
Haha, glad you like it! I just...could not repost this piece until I gave it a proper story to do it justice. It irks me when people submit gorgeous art and don't put any background, story, or explain WHY they choose the theme or what's going on in the piece. So...yeah.

You've got a knack at finding skilled artists to commission! I really like this one!
That said, I've noticed something with your last few submissions. You've got a good knack at writing short stories; I find they really set the tone of your commissions and provide a context that wouldn't be there otherwise.

Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it!
And wow, thanks for thinking my writing is decent (probably doesn't match up to yours though; I know you're pretty good at writing too). I just hate leaving pieces like this empty or without a background. Hell, anyone can buy art and say, "so and so made this...it's good!" But it takes skill to make up a scene or reason behind the piece- at least that's how I see it. I'd love to do more writing but meh, I just don't have the time like I used to, that's why I tend to do shorter stories instead.
