A bit of personal art I made to kick off 2018 - just a nice picture of Luthien enjoying her roses. I had a ton of fun with this, because I let myself just go completely Secret of Kells with it. I honestly don't know why I don't do backgrounds like this more often, I really enjoy it! I used some new pens for this too, because I want to try inking with different colors. This is a dark brown, which is a bit hard to distinguish from black for me, but can you guys tell?
I did save a high-res so if you'd like a print of this, I'd be more than happy to make one! Just let me know. :)

I was going to wish you a rosy New Year, but you seem to have beaten me to it.
I think the brown inking is a little less harsh than the black, and as
Fell observed, warmer.

Wooooooow, this is gorgeous! I really want to see more work from you like this one! I think inking with brown (instead of black) really works for you. I didn't look at it and immediately notice it wasn't inked with black; however, the feel overall is so much gentler. More, more, more, please! <3
I did my own experiment with coloured line inking.
I have a long way to go artistically. I don't have as much practice time as I would like. That being said, I took Kashmere up on a standing offer and coloured a blue pencil work of hers to look like my character. Like you I left the black ink in the pen and tried other colours. I outlined all greens with green ink, brown accented with brown, even the stone walkway was inked with grey inks.
I should have taken more care with the tabletop, but after three days colouring in stages I was about done.
background pencils, character marker, base lines Kashmere, Patricia is mine.

first attempt was my character Ben, also done on a Kashmere piece, all marker.

Interesting. It definitely does change the mood of a piece, makes it softer and more dreamy I think. I noticed a lot of the art I've faved over the years always has that soft look to it, and most, if not all of them, were inked with colors other than black, or not inked at all. What pens were you using for those?
Some were Micron fine line color set by Pigma Color Technologies https://www.dickblick.com/products/.....on-pen/#photos
others were LePen byMarvy luchida
I found the Microns in the Scarp booking section of a Micheal's Arts and Crafts

Ooh okay, so it's a whole set with lots of colors. That would be nice to have just to experiment with. The only set I have now is the sepia, and it was a complete set with all different sized nibs. I really only use two so the other ones will just sit there, it would be nice to get them all in one nib size. I'll have to watch for those next time I'm supply shopping.
