Deeply hidden in the forests of Brandenburg in eastern Germany, there is this abandoned kerosine tank.
Buried under an artificial hill, the twin tanks (this only one of them) are at least 30 meters in diameter, 6-7 meters to the roof. The double walls are rusty welded steel planks, so is the floor and the roof.
The tanks were installed in the 70s to secretly store jet fuel for the east german airforce, but became obsolete shortly after the reunification in 1990. The remote object was left and no other use was found yet. The tanks are dust-dry, but it still smells like gasoline down there, more than 25 years after they were emptied.
What impressed me: Everything was open. No fence around it anymore. Not even a warning sign. And there are lots of holes and entries to smaller tanks hidden under the trees.
But what impressed me most was the absolutely awesome acoustics down there. I can't really describe it, you have to experience it with your own ears. So we just inflated a balloon with nothing but air and let it drop to the floor. The Bang was amazing.

when i first saw this i was thinking of a painting i saw somewhere that had a herd of zebras trapped down there.
in the painting i think it was a natural cave, but minus the zebras and the ladder, it looked almost exactly the same,
even the lighting, as i remember it, which might not be entirely accurate.

Geez man you want to be very careful going into a space like that. A confined space like that could be filled with carbon dioxide/monoxide, nitrogen, you'd have no way of knowing there was no oxygen in there until it was too late. Lots of Australian farmers have died entering empty water tanks to clean them. Just because you can't smell any fumes doesn't mean the air is breathable. You shouldn't go into a space like that without some sort of gas detector.
You take such excellent photos, would hate to lose you! :)
