Ok I'll try and explain what I was thinking with this picture.. bad explanation follows:
The creature in the jar is like a living spirit which feeds on pain, sorrow and injuries. Travellers and healers keep them and when they are injured breath in some of the creatures body, healing their wounds. The creatures themselves do not leave the jars as they are given a constant source of food.
