My first story of 2018.
This is a purely science-fiction tale. It is also an experiment, using Smashwords, to see if I can make some money from my hard work. Perched on the edge of infinities uncounted, a cobbled-together space station named "Alternity: One" orbits the chaotic storms at the galactic core. Perforations and rents in space-time open upon parallel reality after parallel reality. Its crew is just as piecemeal as the station: most without a way home. At the same time, they all have something in common.
Every crew member is David Foster. Male. Female. Human. Artificial. They are all alternates of one another.
Today, as happens from time-to-time on the station, a new crew member has arrived. Sole survivor of his ship, he has lost everything. Dubbed "Copper", the station crew hopes he will acclimate and thrive. To help him adjust, he has been assigned to the station's custodian: Rat.
A tale of identity, uniqueness, and commonality, "Alternity: One" follows a vastly different pair of beings who are, at their core, the same person: stranded at the center of multiple universes ... with themselves.
