He's shown a strong sense of leadership to the higher-ups during the Katrina crisis and has been assigned to the state ran sanctuary to protect creatures that have lost their main habitats. As much as he loves the work and the people. There's just that oooone little... short. 4'3" "thing" he really could do without.

He's your everyday man's man who's the one figure all the animals and other rangers look up to. Despite his dealings with Remi and Topher. He's pretty much straight and seemingly immune to the two's girly charms. Which adds to Toph's displeasure. He may act it but he's already aware of the effeminate deer's interests. Unfortunately he sees the dou as his own kids. But loses his completely cool composure when anything curvaceous of the fairer sex(camper/ranger/animal) saunters past his field of vision! Which really gives Remi a chuckle. Which then heads to hairbrained schemes to distract Ricks long enough for him to run rampant over the unwary male staff and campers.

The relationship between him and Remi is sn odd one. As he knows it is next to impossible to change the bear. And that he knows in his heart it'd be wrong. He makes exceptions to Remi's kinks. By allowing him free reign to do whatever he wishes to any poachers and violators to the laws on sanctuary grounds. It cuts his workload down as all he's left with is a completely exhausted (and sometimes) sobbing offender begging him to take him into custody.
