I am a totally self taught artist, when i did finally manage to go to an art class i got thrown out by the instructor. Everything i know i learned on my own, so i think i just might have a different perspective on how to do art, so I decided to throw togeather some tutorials that maby might help somebody like me who is inspired to do art but can't make it to an art class, so heres my next bit, Shading. Have fun!

pretentious tightwad bastard 'technique' nazis. Some of those art instructors DISGUST ME; all they want to do is create fucking CLONES. For a subject with such potential for PERSONAL GROWTH and SELF-DISCOVERY, there sure are a whole load of closed-minded pinkboy hypocrites.
I have no respect for those kinds of people.
Honestly, I don't think it's right at all to force everybody to do things the SAME WAY. Art is about originality, gods dammit! Sure, I can take cues from the wisdom of greater, more experienced artists, but I'm not going to KILL MY SOUL with this exact copying bullshit.
You are a great avian, Fugue, for you seem to grasp EXACTLY the kind of guidance that is -helpful- to aspiring artists. You offer your insights of PERSONAL observation, not shit you took out of a textbook. This is the kind of word-of-(beak) wisdom that lays foundations for helping OTHERS develop Themselves.
I salute you.

My thanks! Im really glad somebody took a look at it, i was sort of worried nobody would notice it. I worked on the layout for a long while, putting alot of thought into trying to boil down my skills into one single page, i wanted that to be the limit. I figgured if i couldnt get it down on one page it wasnt going to help anybody at all. I did shading because i noticed that shading is a skill alot of artist seem to have the least experience with, not too suprising since most lessons relating to it are absolutly useless, confusing as all hell and go about it in the most time consuming and painstakingly stupid way imaginable to create basically the exact same effect. Its not the most advanced technique i suppose but it is so easy and yet so powerful in making your art stand out and personnaly i love it so I figgured i could pass it on, get a whole lesson down in what i thought was something someone could just look at and try for themselves. It works best with digital art programs and works beutifully over a hand drawn pencil sketch that has been scanned into a computer or even over an old work you might have lying around. personnaly nothing would make me happyer than to see this technique making a few aspiring artists a little better at there craft
hmmm.. inking tutorial. Do you mean doing basic shapes or just laying ink over a pencil sketch? I do almost all of my work digitally in the Gimp art program from start to finish, but i have managed to master using a scanner to scan in my drawn stuff and using a handly filter in the gimp to make it look like ive inked it in half a second. Feel free if you want to just send me a note or what have you on anything that might be giving you trouble and ill gladly try to help you out
did you mean in real media or on the computer? if your doing it in real media, AKA inking it with a pen before you scan it in then id recomend a good fine point sharpy pen for your inking, its bold, indellable, wont fade or smear when it dries and you can pick up one anywhere at all for super cheap. they even come in several colors. Just remember when scanning it in to set your dpi resolution at 300 dpi or more and 32 bit color. the dots per inch (dpi) are the mesure of how carefully the scaner scans it. most problems people have about loosing detail and color in there works when they scan stuff is because they leave it at the default dpi which on some scanners can be as low as 72 dpi! 32 bit color is real color, it has all the colors your naked eye can see so setting it at 32 bit true color and 300 dpi or higher will result in the scanner taking an exact scan of your work. the scanner will take a while to run over it but the wait is worth it, trust me
