In a town that doesn't seem to act dubiously to the more unusual humanoid races, Rizzell the kobold decides to go shopping in the open. He wanders into a store with a sign that welcomes adventurers--he fancies himself as one, perhaps he can find something useful to buy!

Sugarboy as a local shopkeep is wondering what sort of critter has just waltzed into his store...

Sugarboy told me it's a D&D reference to the Axe of the Dwarven Lords. He was wanting to sneak in something like that into the picture.Yeah, it really stands out! Hopefully the shopkeeper will give the kobold a quest where the axe is the reward...because reasons.
As far as I understand it, kobolds have changed appearance over the past few decades (at least with Dungeons and Dragons). The "Forgotten Realms" (Dungeons and Dragons) style of kobold has a canine nose while some other depicted kobolds (like with Pathfinder) do not.
I personally like the canine nose as it makes the kobold immediately stand out and it kind of matches their vocalized "yipping" they sometimes do. But obviously kobolds do vary in appearance. :)

Not that much actually. They simply used to be mammalian post 2.5. After that they were reworked into draconic bloodline, given all sorts of new lore and basically made more than critter to kill. That's where they finally set in. In fact, the new style gives them even more draconic than reptilian appearance....but then someone decided to plop the silly nose on.
As for the yipping...that's not really true. That was kinda made up in Neverwinter Nights expansion, then people who liked it picked up on it, followed by the loudest Kobolds on FA spreading it.
